Hi all, I was wondering what can be used as a scalp into making a doll wig? I am asking this because I am in the proccess of starting 3 marionettes for Xmas and this whole process is new for me. And since finding doll wig's here is pretty much impossible to find, I was thinking of making my own. So any help on the subject is more than welcome. I plan on using doll hair found at the dollar store. But I am still wondering what I will use for the scalp. I may try to use the hair punching technique that Vampire Wombat so generously demonstrated on BlogTV. But other techniques that you guys can tell me about is more than welcome.

There are several possibilities. It depends on how large the head will be and the hair style on if some things may work or not. Also depends on how much you want to spend.
An idea I just had that would work with a smaller head and the hair punching technique would be to use a bit of a sock with nice elasticity with some sort of elastic (hairband like I used for my sock puppet would work) embedded. Then you could secure the hair with some tacky glue or hot glue.
Or if you want a faster technique, you could glue down the hair in rows instead of hand punching.
