I have been praying for many months that somehow God would let me know what I am supposed to do with this passion for puppets and their creation. I presented an idea to our outreach pastor and it was excepted. I am prod to say that I will be working with my Church on building a new missions puppet ministry. The idea is to make 5 puppets that will go with the missions team to perform overseas. Before they leave to come home, they teach the people there how to use the puppets, then leave the puppets there for them to do their own performances. Next missions trip I make 5 more. I truly am excited because my biggest memories of my childhood were my churches puppet ministry, Sesame street, Fragil Rock, and of course the Muppet Show. I think people still are taken to a special spot in their mind with puppets. I hope that this adventure will be a great experience for everyone involved. Let me know what you think. I will keep everyone updated as this grows if you want.

Photo_093009_001 I have to say thank you to everyone who is a part of this site. I have gathered so much advice from all of you and was able to make Andy here very quickly. Andy will be one of 5 puppets that will be part of the TGR Puppets team. This is a quickly made model. I did not have a template so you can see marker marks on the nose and ears. The stitching on the neck was a mistake I made, but will be fixed on the real puppets. I need to add more materail to the bottom to cover arms, and do something to make the eyes be more permanent. Currently its paper print out glued to spoon. Any ideas for my next puppets would be awesome. I have to make a Spanish, Indian, Chinese, and African puppet next, each with differences like Andy's big nose.

Take care all and I'll keep you posted.

He looks like he would make a great character for a fantasy world -like Hobbits.

Hey, Archangel,
Great to hear about the puppet ministry for missions.
My pastor has also agreed to start a puppet ministry at my church too. I have to build a theatre too, out of fabric and pvc pipes. Doing this 'in house' so to speak will help with branching out to other clientele. I wish you every success with this new venture. Smiley

Thank you. I'm working on an African, Chinese, Indian, and Spanish one too. I just learned my first lesson in not buying cheep fleece yesterday and will need to re-due the African all over. But, live and learn.

I'm looking forward to seeing the end results for the varied ethnicity of your puppets. Could you elaborate on the problem you had with the 'cheap fleece'. I could never get or afford antron fleece and the fleece I'm using is quite nice, someone in the US bought it for around  $8 a yard. I've order some more from a well known fabric store in the US that my BiL will bring when he comes, it was on sale last month, mmm, I hope it's ok and the quality it good, but you never can tell I guess, lol.

I bought some cheep fleece from Walmart that if you tired to hand sew, it would bull apart. It was extreamly stretchy which caused the arms when stuffed to be a lot larger then what I wanted. You should be safe since mine was 2.50 a yard (very cheap). The stuff that worked best for me was an anti pile fleece from JoAnns that was between 4.50 to 9.50 a yard.

Ah, that's a relief  Shocked I bought a lot from Hancocks, they had a sale on in September, the price was really good, but I haven't seen it yet, I was hoping you hadn't bought yours from there. Smiley

I guess I should post the link to the web site. For all of you looking for a free, easy to use web site with a good web site builder, this is a great place to get one. The TGR Puppets web site is www.tgrpuppets.weebly.com. www.weebly.com is the web site builder.
