artist in residency puppets

I have an audition with the Iowa Arts Council on Wednesday for the performing and teaching rosters, so I have been busy working on my audition plan. I wanted to post a few pictures of some children that I "borrowed" to do a test run of the plan I have. It worked out well and they all had fun. Of course it was small scale with only part of the whole cast of the story -
Big Bad Wolf is Good
- being represented but we were able to see if it would work the way I had it planned. Wish me luck on Wednesday!

Well, I am off to my audition! I will let you all know how it goes. A new venture for me in my performing. Not very many puppeteers on the artist roster so I am hoping that I have no problems getting approved!

At least you feel it went well - the best interviews/auditions are generally those where you come out feeling good about it. Hope you get it!

Sorry I didn't get to say this before you went in but "chookas!"
I think that might be a uniquely Australian term but it is very intrenched in the professional performing culture as another way to say break a leg!

Just wanted you all to know that I received a letter from the Iowa Arts Council right before Christmas and I have been accepted for both the Teaching and Performing Artists Rosters! Thanks for all your well-wishes!! Now I have to write out my plan so I am ready if I get hired! Of course all the grant money for this school year is used up so schools will not have any money to access until next school year. Anyway that was good news!!

I think they made a great choice. Keep us informed.............. Perhaps you can start a thread on how one prepares to be qualified and what is needed to to a get accepted to a State Art Roster.

Congratulations!! I agree that they made a great choice. Keep us posted about how things go.
BTW - what kind of work would you be doing? I'm not real clear about that.

What I would be doing is teaching puppetry as an art form in schools. The students would make puppets (a variety of kinds - determined by the stories and songs they will be performing). Then after making the puppets we would would practice a story skit and song (this also would be chosen by the students from some options that I will provide). The students would also be making the props and scenery to be used in the presentation. Then they would eventually present their own story/song to the rest of the school. I am still working out the details but the "mini-residencies" I have done in my local day-care and school have been fun!!
