Hiya.  I'm new to puppet making...well, I made a couple several years ago but am struggling to remember what I did.

The problem is the hair. My 8 year old daughter is facinated by puppets.  We lost her at a camp and found her on the puppet stall helping to make them.  So, I thought, for Christmas I'd make her her own puppet of her.  But how do I do the hair?.  I've found some fleece about the right colour for her skin tone, but it's micro fleece, so fairly light weight.  I'm thinking wool hair as that's what I used before, but I can't remember how I made it.  She has fairly short hair, so it's not a simple central strip with hair coming out of it.  I need a fringe and everything (do you call it a fringe in the US of A?).  I thought of just building it up threading it through the fleece but I'm concerned that the fleece won't be substantial enough to hold it.  Does that make sense?

Any thoughts, techniques or tips very gratefully recieved!

I would like to Welcome you to Puppets and Stuff. Hair for puppets can be made several different ways so I searched the forum for some basic ideas for you. Others will be by shortly to give you there take on wig making.
