Just wanted to share that I am just now trying a completely foam puppet....ie: no fabric covering.
I didn't want to spend so much on the reticulated foam, so I spent days searching for a cheaper price.
I finally found one!  It is slightly different than the "Scott" foam, in that the pores are more open; but it is 35 ppi, which I heard was the best to work with.  It dies wonderfully, and looks great!  It is also slightly stiffer than the "Scott" foam, but I really liked it anyways.  So...for those of you that would like to try this, the website is:
http://foamandfoam.com
Click on "Out Door Foam" on the left hand side, and then, you can purchase it for $22 a sheet and $7 shipping.
Enjoy!

Great fine!  The Microcell foam is the stuff I use that they call EVA foam here in Kansas City. The price on the price on the 1/2" is better then I get it here in KC even with shipping although I bet I'll keep buying from here simply because it is so convenient. The local place also has a scrap bin I can pick up foam for next to nothing if I want to dig through it. I got about a 2' X 5' X 1/2" sheet of regular foam for $4.00 the other day out of it. Smiley

The Volara foam they have listed on their site is great for making hats and props and I have even used it to make some puppets in the past. Here in KC I can't get the above Microcell in anything thinner then 1/2" so have used the Volara foam when I needed a thinner foam. A good use for this foam would be 2D cut out shapes that you would normally make out of something like foamcore since it would hold up better.
