Title: Do you have a puppetry-related blog or web site?
Post by: Ron G. on February 12, 2007, 10:43:16 pm
OK... I was going to start a thread on this topic the other day, and include favorite blogs, web sites, and forums which you enjoy visiting that aren't your own - but Shawn coincidentally started a "favorite forums" thread here, which seems to be going over like a lead balloon. So this is the thread where you don't have to worry about hurting Shawn's feelings, and can talk about your own blogs or web sites - and maybe slip in a couple of links to favorite blogs and web sites by other people as well.

Even if you've already posted a link to your blog or web site in the past, or have it in your signature, please go ahead and post it again so that we can have it all in one place. This isn't a competition, so don't worry about "OMG - Puppets and Stuff is the best there's no way I'm even going to mention another blog or web site!" We get it... the people who come here and stick around like this site, but if you only spend your time here then you're like an ostrich with it's head buried in the sand, and really are unaware of everything else that's going on in the wide world of puppetry.

I don't have a blog or web site of my own right now, but to get things started allow me to mention two puppetry communities which have a lot of merit - the Puptcrit email list and the Muppet Central web site and forums...

http://lists.driftline.org/listinfo.cgi/puptcrit-driftline.org

http://muppetcentral.com/

I first joined both of these groups years ago, but don't post on them nearly as much as I do here. I do like Puppets and Stuff a lot, which is why I spend so much time here - but there's a great big world of puppetry out there beyond P&S, and you're cheating yourself if you don't take a look into it once in awhile.

Now... do you have a puppetry-related blog or web site of your own, or a favorite that you'd like to tell us about? Please do us a favor and post a link on this thread. If you post links to other people's blogs or web sites please take a second and tell us why you like them, and why they would worth visiting.

Okay If we must!! LOL

I didn't know Shawn was requesting Blogs, I thought it was focused on Forum type of web sites.

I like (I hope Andrew doesn't mind me adding this instead of him) Puppet Vision Blog.

http://www.puppetvision.blogspot.com/ (http://www.puppetvision.blogspot.com/)

He brings very interesting info on puppetry stuff on a daily basis.  I like that Andrew keeps it up on a daily basis.

Keep it up Andrew!!!

No... you're right, Daryl. Shawn was limiting his thread to other forums - I was the one interested in having a place where people could advertise their own blogs and web sites, and/or favorite blogs, web sites, and forums by other people. Billy has a web site, Shawn has one, Miryana has one - lots of us do. Shawn might even have a list of them somewhere around here already, and I've just forgotten about it.

I really enjoy Andrew's blog a lot too, though to be honest I don't get to it every day - I'm kind of irregular in my Internet usage. I appreciate the fact that he links to other people's blogs and web sites, which really helps me get a broader picture of what's going on in the world of puppetry. I also enjoy Andrew's posts on Puptcrit and Muppet Central, which is where you might run into him when he's not around here.

Thanks Billy - having a link exchange with other members is a great idea! I've spent many hours looking at people's links pages on their sites or blogs, and discovering lots of wonderful new resources. It's a great way to build community, and find out what's available.

In case anyone missed it, here's a link to Billy's main page...

Billy has done a lot for promoting puppetry and puppet building.

PS
I really wanted to mention Rose Sage Barone's Puppetry Home page, too. Before Rose Sage married Nick Barone she built up a wonderful resource called The Puppetry Home Page on her larger site, Sagecraft.com. I don't know if she's kept it up in the last few years, but it's still a great resource and a true labor of love...

Title: Animations Online
Post by: Shawn Sorrell on March 28, 2007, 09:19:56 am
Just found this one while researching something.  I had not seen it before or if I had forgot about it. :)

Animations Online (http://www.puppetcentre.org.uk/animationsonline/index.html)
Quote
Animations is a quarterly online magazine run by the Puppet Centre Trust. It is a voice for contemporary puppetry and related theatre forms, offering discussion and debate, reviews, and news from the puppet community and elsewhere. It’s an essential read for anyone interested in puppetry in all its diverse manifestations. Animations Online aims to represent the full spectrum of professional practice, from traditional puppetry to experimental visual theatre using puppetry or animation.

As noted in the quote above the magazine is sponsored by The Puppet Centre Trust (http://www.puppetcentre.org.uk/).  There main site is well worth a visit.
Quote
Founded in 1974 with the aim of gaining greater recognition for the artform, PCT’s work has included organising festivals, commissioning research, producing the famous journal Animations and running a range of training projects and connecting events for the industry. Over the last 30 years the British puppetry scene has grown and developed and with it PCT’s work has evolved.

Think the site looks really good.
I still really love Rex.. he's just so beautiful!
The pictures all look great and its a nice style that you write in.
I might have missed it but do you have a way to contact you and / order something on there? I don't think I saw it.

I'm working on mine too, should be a bit more there by the end of this weekend and we're changing the format etc. There is a link from my site to my blog (via blogspot) and I'll have pics of Rampage and a full write up on there by end of tomorrow.

Any feedback gratefully received also!

Here is a copy of the business cards I got printed for Rampage. The front had this on and the back had the Puppets and Stuff info on. I got about a 1000 printed and lots and lots disappeared but if anyone want a few let me know :)

I'm not worthy!  All of your sites are so fabulous.  I'm still starting out so here is my first attempt to get things started:

http://puppetsandpals.com (http://puppetsandpals.com)

My vision for my site is to have a blog added and an ongoing newsletter/zine to show things like crafting ideas for busy moms that all relate to puppetry since I am a mom.  I also would like to get video chat capabilities so that I can do live puppet shows and demonstrations.  For now, I am at least developing more with YouTube.  I also have a cool idea using YouTube up my sleeve that I am working on and once completed, I will be happy to unveil it.

You are such a blessing and a good example to all, you are so energetic and always are willing to try the impossible. I'm so proud of you. :) Keep up the good work.

I have finished off the basic form of my website and uploaded it this evening.  Sorry that the domain name bears no relation to the subject matter.  It has a long pedigree but never mind.  I still have to add tags to it (when I have learnt how) but otherwise will be updating it fairly regularly.

I would love to know what people think, as it need tweaking and I am not very objective having been immersed in the build for weeks.

My Puppet Blog surprises me...I've been posting to it since January of 2006.  I post one or two times a month...I talk about how I make my puppets, the Seattle guild, the Ren Faire I'm in, etc.  But the thing that surprises me is the number of hits...I'm over 21,000 hits.  I get more than 1,000 hits a month now.  No one ever comments and I can't help but wonder where are all these hits coming from? I can count the people on one hand who tell me they've visited my blog before...and I have found my blog linked to other puppet blogs much to my surprise...but I can't see that getting me over 1,000 hits a month, right?
The one I'm talking about is the Yahoo! 360 one in my signature...I do have a myspace (http://www.myspace.com/elly_leaverton) but I don't blog there.  I have to recommend Yahoo! 360 if you want to build a free blog. There's very little limits on photos you can upload.

Does anyone know how to add a visits counter to a website?  I have mine almost finished now and would like to know if it gets hits.  I just need to add tags (when I have worked out how to do it).  I have also had a lovely boost from a friend, http://willowhouse.typepad.com.

She makes beautiful peg dolls, well worth a look.

You might want to give Site Meter a try. I used to use it all the time.  The basic version is free and you simply have to add some HTML to your site for it to work.  They give pretty good instructions on the site.

I checked out the site that Shawn suggested and it looks pretty cool (and simple to use) ... I might have to add one to mine too!

Newmodeller, i use www.feedburner.com to track my site. it's completely free and pretty simple to use (and a lot of features (like email subscriptions, etc) if you really want to get into it), but even a non-technical type of person like me can get it after reading the instructions. Hope it helps!

Speaking of blog moving...Yahoo! 360 beta is closing.  So I'm going to be moved by force!  They say whatever it is that's going to replace 360 will be nifty and preserve my content.  I'm a Yahoo! fan so I'll wait and see before I make my decision.  But for what I like to do with mine, I'm thinking Blogspot might be a good place for me.

I've just tried something new too. First off I had to add this video to Livevideo as Youtube will not allow videos over 13 minutes in length.
The new thing is to step away from magic and concentrate on video games.
This is to just try out for a different audience. So far it seams to be getting the hits but will it be a hit?

That's kind of fun Henry!  I like the concept.  It would be really cool if you could superimpose yourself over the game video like a new reporter (even if in a small square in the corner).  Of course that would complicate the production just a bit. :)  It was a bit hard for me to hear what you where saying. The sound track of the game was a bit hot.

Hi, I'm an occasional lurker here, but I haven't posted before :wave.  I just wanted to let everyone know about our new website.  It's an online puppetry community (er, much like this one, actually  :) ), but maybe a little bit different.  Anyway, for what it is worth, we've just started and are looking to attract members and get things rolling.  So, if anyone's interested, please, check us out!  (It is totally free, of course.)

Elly

:o There were just too many bugs, both on my blog and SHould's, so I finally moved aways from Yahoo 360 and I encouraged SHould too as well.  :'(

These days, Elly's Puppet Blog can be found here:

Hi all,

I could change my blog's place, but i dont feel like it and my gut feeling tells me that if i am patient enough all will go back to normal and i will be able to continue posting my blog on yahoo360. So for now, my blog will stay there. If i do see that at the end of all this they cant deliver what yahoo360 promised i may reconsider. But to be frank, its not a few bugs that will stop me. I am living way more crap in my life as we speak to be affected by those.

Puppet hug to all,
SHould

I posted two comments to your 360 over the last few weeks.  They looked like they posted, then when I went back...they were gone.  Also, the other day when you posted your latest post, I clicked on it and it took me to a post of yours in March. I had the toughest time trying to get to your new post.
It was my experiences trying to interact with your blog that convinced me to move.
I said this all in a comment to you...but it didn't go through.

Hello Puppet People!

My husband and I have been lurking around here for a couple of months also, but are really trying to get out there among the puppet community, and pick the brains of all you wonderfully skilled puppet folks! So... I figured it was time to plunge on in here!

We direct a Puppet Team for our local church, and have a team website, as well as a myspace page:
http://www.geocities.com/atomicpuppets
http://www.myspace.com/atomicpuppets

I also recently began a blog, which, although it is a personal blog, intended to be little slices of all the different parts of my life, right now there's more puppet content on it than anything else.
http://puppetgirl-angie.blogspot.com

Hmm... husband started a recent blog as well, but for the life of me, I can't get the right url for it... I'll post it later!  8)

I can't wait to go through and check out all these links! Hope to get to know some of you here on this forum!

:wave Hi, I'm working on a subbing project for a puppet series from Taiwan: Legend of Black White Dragon Wolf (Deja Vu Multimedia)

Please visit my subbed videos here: http://www.youtube.com/eunicep10

Just a brief intro about Taiwanese puppet drama series: Taiwanese puppet produced by Pili Puppet Multimedia first appeared on US TV under Cartoon Network as "Wulin Warriors" in 2006 but was a complete flop due to terrible dubbing and alterations.  It received such bad reviews from public that the show only lasted 2 episodes and was eventually pulled out from the network.

In late 2008, Deja Vu Multimedia was a new company that splits out from Pili Multimedia to produce their own brand of Pili puppet drama.  With limited resources and financial support, the company managed to gain some support mostly from some of the original Pili fans.

Anyway, I'm just a fan who is interested in Taiwanese puppet drama and I hope you all enjoy watching my subbed videos.

I use my site for video display, works in progress blog, and generally anything else related to my puppet/mascot madness.

New version just went up a month or two ago so it's pretty spartan still, just haven't had the time to do the character photo shoot and get the cast bio's up and stuff. But I'll get there eventually seems like one thing always distracts me from another.. And the web site generally is the victim..

And so nobody has a cow, disclaimer.. My brand of humor may or may not offend in some of the videos so watch with a 50lbs bag of salt because a grain just won't cut it lol ;)

Hey guys

just thaught Id drop a line and let everyone know that footlice is still running video blogs on you tube...

weve finished the marisca puppet and have moved onto creating keven rudd and Jerry harvy rod puppets as well as a band of beetnics that have been used as marishcas band...

There is one more puppet in this show that ive yet to show you and that is a two person guitar playing, sad faced hobo... after that I will be showing these puppets in action....

I know that people have been waiting for marishca to make her debut and I apologise for not revealing her yet but the current show in wich she is the star is taking up my time, but do not stress she will be broadcast soon and trust me she is amazing... all the best and if youd like to check out my stuff look up Footlice Theatre company or pyrostix on you tube... in the meantime keep inovating all the best and merry christmass

Post scriptum... check out the gallery for body double puppets Ive made for a kids show called Puzzling Pirates

The website (www.ExperiencePuppets.com (http://www.ExperiencePuppets.com)) has articles related to basic and advanced puppetry, puppet teams, and puppet ministry.

The blog (www.ExperiencePuppets.com/puppettipsblog/ (http://www.ExperiencePuppets.com/puppettipsblog/)) gives tips on basic and advanced puppetry, puppet teams, puppet practices, and more.

Thanks for listing them. I gave them both a quick once-over, and look forward to going back and reading more carefully. At any rate, I now have them bookmarked.

Welcome Ariella,

I am going to edit your post with links to your site. :)  You need to add a www to the beginning it looks like.  Normally links don't need that but for some reason your site is not coming up unless that is there.

You sure make it easy to admire the art of puppetry with a video that goes over so well with such a broad audience.  The effect i've seen on folks of all ages using puppets is inspiring to say the least and knowing there are so many folks out there dedicated this form of performance are is fantastic.  You've all obviously got alot of enthusiasm and talent for the craft. I just created a hobby site that has a puppetry element and if I can produce on half the level you and alot of your followers are at one day, i'll consider my venture a victory.  Keep up the great work.

Here is the link to my new hobby site where I created puppets to teach folks to draw and just generally enterain everyone.

Hey There VampireWombat, i'm really impressed with the amount of efforts you've put forth in constructing all of the puppets I saw on your blog from 2009. Very impressed, as there are a truckload of them. You obviously really enjoy the creative process and working to continue to improve your craft.  Nicely done.

DansPuppets  - great website, though the word 'Bespoke' threw me a bit, but other than that local grammatical speedbump which was easy to get over thanks to Wiki, it was onto see just how many puppets you've constructed for different folks.  I'm curious how long you've been doing this, as your puppets certainly seem incredibly professional and that marks the work of an artist who's no stranger to the craft.  Nicely done.

My blog is in Hebrew, but if you want to have a laugh you can run it through google translator (it has nothing to do with the original text, but it's really funny).
Anyway, you can watch the gallery and some of my video clips, that are without words (again, you are invited to watch the Hebrew stuff too, maybe you'll fall in love with my beautiful language).

Welcome to Puppets and Stuff Libby.................. There is one thing about it when it comes to puppets they are universal. Although I did not understand the words I understood the manipulation of the puppets. Great Blog....... again a picture says a thousand words. I loved the way you sculpted the puppet heads out of foam. I thinking that it was Styrofoam? Please go to the introduce yourself area and tell us more about what you do. are you a entertainer, school teacher or just kid at heart. Thanks for sharing.

It's been WAY TOO LONG since I've checked in here at Puppets and Stuff.  I hope you'll all have me back.  :-[

I've been busy getting back to business here in Singapore.  I've been living here in Singapore for almost three years now and building up a good start to puppetry with the international schools and popular children's book stores.  I created a new website for my new business name.  I don't sell puppets anymore.  I am strictly doing shows locally and it keeps me busy enough.  Thought I would share my site with others to see how I show what I do here in Singapore.  Within the site under links, you can find my link to my facebook fan page where I show my work in progress of shows that I am building.  Right now I am working on finishing Strega Nona and getting the rights from the author to be profitable from his story through my shows.  It's a daunting task getting rights from all the authors and publishers but I want my business to be legal.  Anyways, here is the address to my site.  Hope you can come click and view.

Fantastic to hear from you again! I hope you get the rights, I used to love those books... if only I could get to Singapore to see it :)

On a slightly technical note: you might want your Facebook link more prominent. Most people assume links will mean links to outside sites (ie. other companies/organisations to which you are affiliated or would like to promote). Instead of having a print/share/favourite link on your homepage, insert a facebook like button. Or add the facebook link to your contact page. The more prominent it is, the more likely people will know it's there and use it.

What kind of puppet is the guy at 2:48 in Part one? I couldn't make out what he is. I really like the gekkos, the colourful birds and the... seafood.
Semore is great- a venus fly trap? Why did you tag it with "schwarz"?
I find it a bit hard to understand, sometimes the sound doesn't come across too well. But I guess you have to take the camera sound? Try to get one of these fluffy things for the mike shooting outdoors.
An "evil furby character" is great!
And I love Hoppers swirling eye!
Those skulls! Nice atmosphere!
As somebody very much interested in puppets, I like to see so many of them. But as somebody watching an act, I find it a bit confusing. I would have liked a bit more... suspense parody, if you know what I mean?
Concerning this I liked part III best. And I will hit the "like" button and subscribe to you as soon as possible, but I am a bit short of time right now.

Either click on the small camera icon to the left of your post (http://puppetsandstuff.com/community/Themes/titere/images/icons/album.png) to get to your album in the gallery or you can click on Gallery at the top then Your Album to get there. Once there you will see an "Add a photo!" link in the middle of the page. Click on it to upload images to your Album.

I would like to add another suggestion for your site Goochman. Since you are using frames you should put the links you have in your sidepar.html along the bottom of each page in text link form. The reason for this is because it is always possible that someone may get to that page without going to your main framed page and then they would not see the side bar and not be able to navigate your site. :)

Just thought I'd post this:
http://www.checkmycolours.com/

There are a few others out there, but basically, that site checks your colour scheme for your site and tells you whether it's legible or not. I find it really helpful to use when picking colours.

Post by: Shawn Sorrell on October 06, 2011, 09:11:23 am
Nice link Na! I am happy to announce that for the most part PandS passes. Ok It does not like the heading color difference but I disagree with that. :)  It also picks up some css that is for the image tag that is not relevant.

This one may be more useful, for more advanced people:
http://www.snook.ca/technical/colour_contrast/colour.html

You can probably get away with some colours, most of the colour checkers out there seem to have binary answers (yes/no), whereas this one gives 'sort of' as well. Also many of the colour checkers don't recognise background images, which means they may give the wrong answers anyway since it can't 'see' the colour of the background.

I recently began working for a company that's been doing puppet shows at schools in Australia for over 20 years.

We took our first leap into producing online content this month.

Please swing by www.youtube.com/constablecaretv to see an Xmas puppet music video I directed.

Or give this link a go ... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xfZDPp9L9qk

Feel free to share it anywhere in the world with anyone! If you like it. I hope you do.

Hello all,
New England band Congress of the Sloth recently made a music video with the help of Chaos Creatures.  We used an old puppet technique technique (I always associate it with the Muppet Show) where the background was black and the puppeteer (me) covered himself in black and made it look like an eagle flying around the two lead performers.  Check it out http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=88yXI_UruSE

to all 'Evil Puppets' great and small, from our favorite horror and horror/fantasy movies - a page I created

growing.  So take a look at this shrine; I'm certain you'll find it to be a "practical" place to visit.

Love the Booze Band Puppets blog! If you haven't checked it out folks you should!  Brings up some interesting aspects of creating a puppet series for puppets.

Steve - You should add the link to the YouTube channel for the show into the right side column or at the top of the page. Haven't used blogspot myself but sure there should be a way to do that.

I'm a slight newbie with a lot of this web-spidering and cross linking, but I think I've correctly added the Youtube link! :) I have so far found blogging to be quite soul cleansing, it's nice to empty the head. Well boozebandpuppets, full marks on the blog. It´s an interesting seeing your developments.
Yes storyboarding is very useful. You know ahead of time what you want. I try to storyboard, but it doesn't always work. Sometimes I haven´t enough time before the shoot, or it's an improv, or a location may be impossible to foresee... or you set ups some rocks 5 mins before the camera rolls so you don´t know what its going to turn out like. That´s when happy  accidents happen and you get some surprisingly good shots. But, it can take valuable time while you muck around with the camera trying to get the right angle. So wherever possible storyboarding is definitely  recommended.
You are right on with the cutting between close-ups. After a while though, you may need to discipline yourself back into going to the effort of doing some wide shots or multiple character shots just to re-establish that all the puppets are in the scene, and to re-establish where you are.
Another trick you will learn in the editing to make things  more 'multicamera' looking are 'L' and 'J' cuts. That is where, if your software allows it, you come in early or late a fraction, with visual or audio in the cut. It makes shots 'overlap' and tie together. eg: one guy finishes talking, then the next character starts to talk off camera, then you cut to that character visually. You can sometimes come in too late or early, on purpose, to simulate a sloppy camera switcher operator (but don´t overdo it though)...
I see you are finding the exciting and addictive realm of 'props'. Keep it up. You are doing well.
... maybe this should have  been over in the movie  making  thread. oh well...

Thanks pagestep007, it's like therapy this Blogging! I find story boarding makes sure I don't forget anything :lol Sometimes I think happy accidents are the only way I'll get through some sessions! The camera angle tips you have given are excellent, thanku, I will try that angle switching concept and try to use more multiple character re-establishing shots. It's great to get filming feedback and improving advice, as I have no training/qualifications. You can only wing so much before you need real expert help! I shall add notes to the Blog as I try it all out!  :)

I am continually impressed by your output and the quality you are achieving, having started so recently. You have some really good talent there! Do keep it up! By the way in the previous  blog entry you referred to the static exterior shots used in sitcoms. They are called 'establishing shots' because they establish where we are supposed to be...logical isn't it. You are also very good at your graphics. I lack a bit in that department. I look forward to seeing those episodes you  are referring to in your blog... in outerspace sounds cool

Title: Re: Do you have a puppetry-related blog or web site?
Post by: BoozeBandPuppets on December 02, 2012, 03:04:54 pm
Cheers pagestep007, 'establishing shots'! It sounds obvious now you point it out! haha Thanks for the high praise indeed, I shall try to keep the standard as best as I can! :) As long as my arms hold up that is!! I had two gigs this weekend, so you would have thought being a drummer I would be able to maintain a reasonable stamina for puppet performing, but my shoulders are killing me today. I have no idea how everyone does this professionally, I have to keep stopping for fear my arms gonna fall off!!! My slight confession is that my actual job for the last 10 years has been as a Graphic Designer, so that's kind of a cheat on my part. As for the new episodes, we are nearly finished on the first of the three, and hope to get it out before Christmas. The outer Space idea was fun for building sets, and I'm really looking forward to giving it a go! Fingers crossed my arms hold out long enough to get them done! Again, thanks for taking an interest and following my progress, it's great to get notes and feedback from such a wonderful and friendly community. I'm going to shut up now, cos I've run out of red wine! :spin

Skint = broke. As in, I have no money. It's a British-ism I think.

Thank You Shawn, it's getting more addictive the more I do! (puppets, not the alcohol!) I do forget sometimes that my British vernacular ticks may not translate! Skint is broke; as NA said, he's quite correct there. :) I'll try and avoid straight up Cockney Rhyming slang! (Drunk would be 'Brahms Liszt!' haha)

Title: Re: Do you have a puppetry-related blog or web site?
Post by: Shawn Sorrell on December 04, 2012, 06:04:31 am
I do watch quite a bit of BBC America. Some of the shows I feel like I need subtitles. :) Then again right now I am in Nashville TN and find it a bit hard to follow the accents of some of the locals.

Title: Re: Do you have a puppetry-related blog or web site?
Post by: Na on December 04, 2012, 07:00:35 am
Because our local government-run channel is often underfunded (and therefore produces at most 2-4 local shows a year) we get a lot of BBC and other shows. -- You have to remember that until digital came along we only had 5 channels. I'm pretty well versed on the common British-isms, all except for the rhyming slang mentioned above.

And we've had so much American TV here in comparison to Aussie - the government regulates that you have to have 2% of air time as Australian TV, not including news, so programmers buy mostly American as it's cheaper - that when an Australian appears on an American show, I notice the Aussie accent and not the US. Although, most Aussie actors learn American accents purely so they can perform in American shows.

I do love myself a Cockney accent :)

Booze Band Blog (http://boozebandpuppets.blogspot.co.uk/)
Also I have managed to get my arse in gear and set up a dedicated facebook page as well.
Booze Band Puppets Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/boozebrothers.bandpuppets)
Which is rather surprising as I am well high on spray paint fumes from building my space set.. should have done that outside really! Safety tip people! ;)

Loved the commercial!  Thought I would go ahead and embed it here... hey folks  you need to read the Blog linked above to learn the back story on this one. :)

I impressed that it was done on such a tight budget and short schedule.  Not something most marketing companies seem to be able to do.

Thank You Shawn! It was an out the blue opportunity I managed to bring my new hobby along for. Hopefully we may get the chance to use him again - youtube is such a universal format now, and the quality doesn't have to be anywhere near that of TV - means you can do stuff with a quick turnaround. Thanks again for the embed and the recommendation. I will have to keep writing interesting blogs if you keep telling people to look!! Pressure's on haha :)

Shawn,I keenly follow this blog. I appreciate being advised here that new entries have been posted, as I might miss them otherwise. BBP, I like your style, you write so well, and that graphic designer background beats me every time.A  small foam mat or cushion helps  take the  pain out of concrete for your knees... and is that monitor battery driven? If it is, lucky for you.

Thank You Shawn! Pleased you like it :D Wasn't sure if posting it every week was the done thing as far as Forum etiquette goes, but thanks to pagestep007 for saying otherwise! :) The monitor is pretty cute, and no, unfortunately it isn't battery powered. I have the mother of all extension cables to run it off!
Cheers for reading pagestep007, thank you for the kind words on the style - I think you are probably onto something with the cushions.. dare I risk pinching off the sofa? I think the girlfriend may go mental if I try that haha.

I like the vids4kids characters, the Grandad puppet actually looks like my neighbor so I can't look him in the eye anymore!! I managed to subscribe this time, do you have different channels for the different characters?

Reminders are great! The only suggestion I might have is to start a new topic still in this section but titled something like "Booze Band Blog Updates". Then start posting the notices in that thread. That gives you a bit more control over things since you are then the owner of the thread.

Title: Re: Do you have a puppetry-related blog or web site?

battery power video monitor (https://www.google.com/search?q=battery+powered+video+monitor&aq=f&oq=battery+powered+video+monitor&aqs=chrome.0.57j0l3j60j62.18474&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8) It seems that primarily the 7" or larger monitors are for in-car video use. Again, you would need the mother of all cords with a cigarette lighter plug on the end, or if you have one of those battery jump-starters with lighter plugs in it, it would actually be fairly mobile.

Title: Re: Do you have a puppetry-related blog or web site?
Post by: Shawn Sorrell on March 06, 2013, 07:23:29 am
Those are some really neat monitors listed. Notice some seem to be USB enabled so wonder if  you could plug them into a laptop USB for power? Would be an alternative if you are sending the video from the camera to laptop while recording.  Still would need a long extension cord if filming outside unless  you kept your filming time short. :)

Hey thanks BoozeBandPuppets !!!  That's so funny about your neighbor....lol.
The two channels I use the puppets on are ItsTimmysVlog and Vids4Kidstv.
V4K is more educational and Timmy's Vlog is just entertainment. I never thought that I would be filming puppets in a million years. However, I am so glad I made my first puppet because I love it and I am addicted to making them now. No two puppets that I have made are the same. They just kinda form into a character as I build.

Hey there!

We have a web site at:  http://www.ruffusthedog.net (http://www.ruffusthedog.net)   where you can watch our old television episodes and the new works we're creating for release online.

Ruffus The Dog lives in a bookshop and shares stories with young viewers - everything from fairy tales like Jack & The Beanstalk and Tom Thumb to classic works of literature like 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea and Around The World In 80 Days - with a cast of puppet characters to help him out.  Loads of silly fun for everyone.  We'd love to hear what people think of our work.

Cheers!

Hello to Puppets and Stuff, I'm getting ready to release a fantasy web series on YouTube, Instagram and Vine featuring puppets engaging in an adventure I hope many will enjoy. The release date is to coincide with the 80th anniversary of the birth of one Jim Henson, a major influence on my work on The Eyes of Queen Lucia. Blightproductions.com will be releasing it for free, no one will be earning anything from this endeavor but I hope to bring puppetry into social media a bit more, to show there's a place for storytelling and handmade visions in the modern age. If anyone knows of anyway for me to publicize this event in our community, more than this blog, I'd greatly appreciate it. Thanks for your time, and please follow Emmy winning Blightproductions as they distribute The Eyes of Queen Lucia on your favorite social media outlets. Quid pro quo; have an "everything Puppets" resource page and put up links for other puppeteers to get there stuff out there and, in return, they will back link to you. Also, make sure to have a facebook fan page and pinterest page.
