Title: Prince Poppycock Puppet
Post by: FuziosPuppets on March 17, 2012, 05:48:30 pm
Hello everyone :)
This post is about making a puppet, which reminds a finalist of AGT 2010, Prince Poppycock.
Here are some photos of him which present, what I already made it :) hope you like it ^_^
[/color]

Here is a main photo which I found on the Internet:

(http://api.ning.com/files/1izA7qarrQcat0ztOJ*foDfzHW869w42H5f1KO4tQyh1Z*RPknQK0g1arAAmzZlXU89VNlnMbT*DgS85Sw8SX5ANwiwiVsKW/401343_10150555107636590_627191589_8741462_1151832785_n.jpg?width=191&height=300)

The first thing for me, was to chose the materials, to made for him a costume:
(http://api.ning.com/files/Qx6a0LN-EZI*CiJXr-RBhqCGCrrQNcFcml1rryxgC2jV1xagDoIPjRitqR0PwDnMCIN1rcqjZGc1bO-NEjNdHMmewNAIS7qM/408053_10150532026161590_627191589_8675660_1054159731_n.jpg?width=737&height=552)

Here is the torso of puppet. Its a hybrid from Puppetlady, a litlle bit modificated myself. I wanted to get the look of torso some kind of athletic. I think the results are good. Beetween arms I glued a parts of red ribbon
(http://api.ning.com/files/FsQWsQXGsqFZVYAIqXhLZ0xSMmCrlmjP6x90nAY5NkDoUwlq3vASpsIBjaDOSPmkDC7gjUJGHTskjhn6lbuAcPk3mS8Pvra2/405718_10150555784346590_627191589_8742951_103466563_n.jpg?width=450&height=600)

Poppys hands. Inside I glued a plastic tube for armrods and rods from a... how o explain to You all.... those rods for fingers I used from a cosmetics things, which some ladys use it to make a curlys of hairs

(http://api.ning.com/files/C3iwlCcqy-BUiG7Wk9qZ*-wupuLPwF7ATVLvyaRFDS*bSXxHZJR*mo2t4S7faGUtlRMgEuzl2EjtwMtx3Es64OHJFYYoS9JQ/425421_10150560580776590_627191589_8758107_1447989335_n.jpg?width=737&height=552)

It's going great  :)
(http://api.ning.com/files/Qx6a0LN-EZIrbKPQqE9-QiKlMe2hCqxzMYaqfVYHxul9mFdgSrxkXMiZ7Z1ZueeH7CF7EwaaRGsl1sDd61lWgYo2KOzVuNRL/425921_10150563491226590_627191589_8766003_115184006_n.jpg?width=450&height=600)

Carving hands by antron fleece in flesh colour ^_^
(http://api.ning.com/files/Pachr88RKXpHJMRjkQbPKB-mJi09SWlRhQREKRral8*AkJeRgj2JPTVMiHaC7gOuc7GuIeMAcYjNNct9SFiNwokYKVSKdVzj/418824_10150569788311590_627191589_8783102_320835067_n.jpg?width=737&height=552)

Carving a torso. Before I started I add implants on his chest
(http://api.ning.com/files/AHykIAluTaaodX6OsTq4myiBWiNvtcihuAltAUHJSdCK8PSGpnoz9OaAfs5YagmV8el0wpZyeLsPV4Skml48IkW43AC8f0rd/401460_10150576163971590_627191589_8801065_1291028435_n.jpg?width=450&height=600)

torso almost sewed :)
(http://api.ning.com/files/nW3Uj7AEh6pFHnAnkC8TqfpRNU8x9X5ZR2G4TulYE-3vQsDOOZQpdo-6YiC0JSyTwo7BOnv0rZ1N2PpJC6NW1SjyBaLKv7c3/416939_10150576219786590_627191589_8801293_214768638_n.jpg?width=450&height=600)

Poppycock's skull. On this skull i marked the lines, which I will cut to make eyebrow ridge. Its a trick from DR Puppet :) very usefull. On the background on tv was emited a program "Doctor G. Medical examinator"
(http://api.ning.com/files/QW-XGKqB67nw9amTxZj-X1RDA3UafMZia3FsVkXdhguMz6WaHp31ciJ2pTUl3gBR*CAEJenSBQa5inVv1*A-gc2SQm0l1B*g/401218_10150600874566590_627191589_8862365_918874796_n.jpg?width=450&height=600)

Here it is. almost complete puppet. The skull with eyebrow ridge, a baroque wig, and torso with hands. The nose I made it by a clay and glued by hot glue gun

(http://api.ning.com/files/fYjWwLTfd0FLZxYrZ8bR7fbq8AvqVKmKmNEo*kH9rA5G4kvo3zoZA1CVG7TORwJVKpAlOZDuqbDMMkiGDc70usRdExJNqCD-/64865_10150651755576590_627191589_9022467_57538125_n.jpg?width=450&height=600)

Here You can see a almost complete puppet. Please dont look at the head ( cuz its my workshop head, and to poppycock's puppet version will look very diffirent). Here You can see also a costume for Poppy, made it for the order :)

Why can't you see the eyebrow ridge and nose in the last photo? Is it the lighting? Or are you going to put those on afterwards?

Fabe, as what I said in my last post picture, dont look at this head, because it is my workshop head. That head I use for all puppets, on which im working. I only wanted to measure and look how could be look the final effect. the head for Poppycock, I will carve by white antron fleece, and it will be with eyebrow ridge and nose. :)

Title: Re: Prince Poppycock Puppet
Post by: Shawn Sorrell on April 01, 2012, 08:18:18 am
I am loving the makeup on the face!  Actually I like everything about this puppet but the face makeup is really unique.  Do tell how you are doing it as Na asked. I can't tell if it is paint, marker or applique.  Could be your using all three methods. :)

Title: Re: Prince Poppycock Puppet
Post by: FuziosPuppets on April 01, 2012, 04:02:12 pm
The head was covered by white antron fleece. The make up on face I made by acrylic panits. I also glued sequins ander eyebrow ridge, but I have to put it a glue with brocade too. The eye I bought blank few pairs and panited myself on custom colour

A little tip: to panit on antron fleece, to make make up I used 300 ml of hot water and a full teaspoon of vinegear to make permanent make up on fleece. No those stars are a brocade too but I remove it cuz I change my mind and removed. His lips I will add a glue with brocade in light lilly colour

So, when Poppycock poppet was finished, I toke him for the PRE-audition to GOT Talent where I performed Figaro's Aria from "Barber from Seville", but honestly I wasnt satisfited in 100%. Im so glad I didnt brought with myself Ursula from a few reasons (I didnt finished her yet, and when I was waited to open the doors for preauditioners, it was rainy... :( Now I have to wait for the answer abt one month, will I go for the audition with jugdes....

We could meet here, gompie. I think I am about in the middle of you and FuziosPuppets... ;)
No, FuziosPuppet, I get tangles enough on my sewing, putting puppets on strings would strain my patience with the yarn world just a bit too much. It is rod puppets for me but I found that the mechanics still buffle me. I had this idea of turning BJDs into rod puppets and I still think it is a good idea, but making BJDs is a bit of a mechanical challenge. So I will make a few of them before I figure out how to attach the rods to them. For now it will be slide shows instead of videos.

BJD? I had never heard that before, so I googled it! :) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ball-jointed_doll (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ball-jointed_doll)

So it means Rikka, You do a model dolls with faces like manga anime, am i right?

Title: Re: Prince Poppycock Puppet
Post by: Rikka on April 19, 2012, 12:00:29 am
I don't think my dolls are very manga faced (even though there are quite a few mangas and animes I enjoy- I might be getting there, someday). It is more the way the dolls are build: http://www2d.biglobe.ne.jp/~dhnoah/make_00.htm (http://www2d.biglobe.ne.jp/~dhnoah/make_00.htm)
I modified the joints somewhat and I use a different material (Fimo). But it is really hard to form those joints, I am just starting to get satisfied, you need quite a bit of training. I think I thrashed 4 dolls yet and didn't care too much about finishing the fifth (I will, eventually). Now I am on my 6th BJD and she finally starts to look okay. But I really have to redo hands and lower arms (her hands are WAY to big and I don't like the wrists)- I like doing hands least of all! I think I will at least do 4-5 more before I try to move them. And I need some aluminium tubes for the elastics. Right now I put in brass tubes that I pull out again- this slows down the process too much for my liking.

Title: Re: Prince Poppycock Puppet
Post by: Shawn Sorrell on April 19, 2012, 06:19:47 am
So you would leave the aluminum in?  Why can't you leave the brass tubes in?

Title: Re: Prince Poppycock Puppet
Post by: Rikka on April 19, 2012, 06:35:53 am
I could, but they are harder and so it is not as easy to cut them right- sawing takes some time and a side cutter tends to press the tube so the elastic wouldn't fit any more. I hope that the soft aluminium is more easy to saw. Also: brass tubes are a little more expensive then alu ones... ;)

I agree.. I love the costuming. He'll be quite a handsome  dude with his final head. Interesting arm jointing too. What is the red stuff?  And the eyebrow technique from Dr Puppet, is it a trade secret or is there a 'link' to what you do there?

oops I came in  real late  on this thread and only read the first page.. then read the rest. Cool stuff. and yes  he turned out pretty cool. Sad to hear about the 3 no's. I am in the same boat.
