Ok, it's the new year and I'm wanting to do something a little different and controversial.

So I'm thinking of a 'bad puppetry podcast'. The idea comes from sites like Bad Astronomy and Bad Science, where they talk about all the things that people believe and show why scientifically, they're wrong (ie. like why aliens can't come from Venus, that sort of thing). My version of it will focus on 'bad puppetry'... So for instance, explaining the differences between placement of eyes (good placement vs. bad placement), etc etc. I could review puppet web series or other such things.

What do people think?

(Short note: it's not going to be overly critical as the name suggests, I was just inspired by reading the other sites mentioned above)

Thats a great idea for a podcast.  The only concern is that it might have a limited life span.  I mean, how many bad things can you come up with to talk about for puppetry amd puppet building?  When you run out your show is over.  That being said, it is a good idea for a limited run of shows and this show could be the launching pad for other poscast ideas.

I don't know how many bad things I could come up with... so far, I already have done 'bad puppetry' on my site in terms of replicas, myths about free patterns... I already have reviews of shows on my list, and reviews of TV/film too. It just occurred to me earlier today, this idea, so I'm mulling it over and trying to think whether or not it would work.

Wao, Na! I didn't know you have a podcast. Radio talk show, Good. Congratulation. How can I do to listening?

Ideas! Subject: Small and big arms hands, long or short arms, position of the eyes, Visual seams, mouth attachment (Included the mouth fabric attachment), the way of the nose, how to put hair, lettuce face, etc.

Miguel!

I don't have one yet - I had planned to do it last year but other things got in the way. I'm still not sure whether I'm going to do it or not, I wanted some good ideas first.

Thanks for the ideas, I'll put them on my list Smiley

Hi Na, I'm very excited by your Puppet Pod Cast Idea.

I believe if you interview other puppets on subjects like Good Vs Bad puppetering it will go over very well as this has not been done before.

Look at all the talented puppets here on this site alone, just waiting to get involved.

So take your faverot puppet, video sink it with another from someware else in the world and a fantastic bit of entertainment will occur.

Will the Pod cast include video? What technical things are involved?

I have said this before if Puppet's and stuff got together as a group and all did a small video each. That centered around a particular theme, you would end up with a great bit of puppet entertainment. That would be one belly laugh after another and last for about half an hour or more.

As here there is a huge pool of talent and the best bit is we are all the best of friends and from all walks of life. But most importantly we cover all corners of the globe.

All nations as one family, that's what Puppets and Stuff is.

I'm excited too - and not at the same time. Problem is that I currently have an extremely weak internet connection, which makes it drop out every five minutes or so. It's very frustrating. I'd love to do proper live podcasts, but at this stage I may need to prerecord a few to get started, until I can find a more suitable location for my laptop (I use wireless and am at the wrong end of the house to get a strong connection. I have found a good spot; but it also means sitting extremely awkwardly halfway off my bed between a wall and another wall, and if you move a millimetre it drops out :P   )

I have some ideas to start off the podcast series and am working on ideas for the second ep. so I can try and keep people interested.

The site I'm hoping to use to do the podcasts with doesn't have a video upload function, but does have a chat box, which means I can post links to any photos/videos or anything else we/I talk about. Also I'd keep show notes and post them on my site, so that if you download an ep. you can also bookmark the appropriate links.

I did plan on having the first episode done already, but have been somewhat been unmotivated by this crappy net connection. It gets very frustrating after 1 hour and you've spent a total of 5 minutes actually accessing the net.

Anyway, I'll keep everyone posted.

You've got a great idea for a pod cast.  Sometimes it just take a little more time a creativity to get all the pieces to come together.  I've got some complications with a series of puppets videos I want to produce and have had a hard time wanting to put the effort into making them a reality as a result.  I guess we both nee to not stress out or get discouraged.  Keep working at it and when the time is right everything will come together.

If Oprah can Skype with her book club with millions of people you can podcast from your website. It would be interesting if you could interview other puppet builders from all over the world using skype or podcast. Not sure how podcast works but I have a Skype account.

Hmm, cleaning out my emails turned up this thread. I never did end up doing this, but as my newer thread (see puppet festival) shows, my idea for doing something similar still stirs.

Sounds interesting.

@Toon Asylum - most radio stations now offer podcasts of their shows.

I love this idea Na. I'd be happy to help if you let me know how. I could certainly contribute some truly awful puppet routines!  yuck
