I've been trying to design a female puppet for my first foray into working with Antron Fleece, but I'm having difficulty figuring out what alterations to the pattern I already own will really show that the puppet is a female.

I love Janice from The Muppet Show's look. Her head has a more feminine feel to it than others. Does it all just come down to costuming?

The pattern I own is the Pinhead Puppet Pattern from Project Puppets.

With Janice, alot of it was the accessories. Like the lips, eye lashes, and hair. She had no real body form to speak of, so they used the skirt and half shirt. If you wanted more of a female form you could maybe thin the waist out and add more hip?

try using the body pattern from Puppetladys album. It was originally created by Dr. Puppet. She has a picture and the PDF pattern (puppet torso hybrid 2)

And Animal31, you're right. I looked at Janice a little closer, and it simply was the lips/eyelashes/etc that made her female. Although she does have a chin, which I find interesting, since I've never made a puppet with a chin.

I'd love to still hear other people's thoughts on what makes a female puppet (and its pattern) feminine. It will be interesting to hear how people convey femininity through their puppets!

I really think that with a hand in mouth type puppet it is all in the accessories and costuming.  Now granted there are always things in the features like chin and nose that can make for a more feminine figure a basic pattern is normally pretty generic.

Body wise the above pattern that Billy posted can give you more of an hour glass waist and you can always add breast to a body to signify the female form.

9/10 just adding eyelashes will make anything seem feminine. (It's the reason I thought Nermal from Garfield was a female for many, many years)

I'd agree with the comments about the glass-hour body shape, lips, but also... a bust is usually a good indication

The rest I think, is all about clothing. Although you could add false nails as well, painted. That's another one that suggests femininity (ininity?)

I agree with Na. The most common way is with adding eyelashes, then long hair and girl clothing help. Everything else is really just extra. Best of luck with your build!
