Puppet Hub will start charging a fee.  (Read 2901 times)

Just wanted to give everyone here a heads up who may also be members over at Puppet Hub that on December 1st they are going to start charging a fee for membership. If the fee is not paid by December 15th their account will be deleted.  Just wanted to spread the word. They did send out an email notice but those often get caught in junk filters.  You can read more about this on their main page.  http://www.puppethub.com/

Hey thanks for letting us know. I don't check in there at all, and hadn't received any notification about the change.

Sadly, even the small price of membership is not something I can afford at this time, so I won't be paying. I never visit, so it's not worth me applying for their 'hardship' membership either.

(It makes me wonder; I am subscribed to their RSS feed. I wonder what will happen to that)

I've not been a member there for a long time. I'm quite happy here at the P&S home front.

In regards to their RSS feed, I would imagine that you'll still be able to see it. In fact you should be able to read the site but just not post anything since you won't have a profile.  I guess they could make it also a read only site if a person has a membership and then the RSS wouldn't work but that would be kind of a wrong move in my opinion.

I don't know about that. I have a referral link from another Ning group, and just tried to access it. The page was blocked, and I needed to sign in to see it; when I tried to register it asked me for $10.

My guess is that unless you're registered, it won't let you view anything. I'd expect it would impact the RSS too. I agree it's the wrong move, but they may not have any choice depending on how Ning is set up.

Someone else asked if people would still be able to access and view the site for free and they said yes. It would only be when you tried to log in to post anything that you would have to pay the fee to access your account.

Thanks - that'll be handy, because then I can keep track of what's going on and if I change my mind about memberships I will be able to judge whether it's worth it or not. (Although already I'm rethinking it, but I just don't have time to keep track of that, plus this site, plus everything else)

I also, received this notice from PuppetHub. Does anyone know how, and by whom this fee will be used? I'm new to this forum, but you can check out my troupe, Fantasy Puppet Theater on this link: http://www.fantasypuppettheater.com/

As far as I can tell, the hosting website (Puppet Hub uses a social networking website, that is not actually created by them) is increasing fees or something like that; the fees will go towards paying this fee and any administrative costs associated. I can no longer access the page where the information was provided, so hopefully someone else who's a member can correct me...

(Where's the modify button gone?)

PS. Welcome!

@Rumplestiltskin - Welcome to Puppets and Stuff! Na is correct.  Fees that the administrator/owners have to pay for hosting the site have gone up and they can no longer pay them so they are asking for help. So the money is going to them to help pay for the site.

@Na -  The modify button/link is still there. It is in the upper right corner of each of your post. Ahh... wait a second. We are in the Announcement area right now and I think I may have permissions set up differently in here. I'll check that out.

Hi guys!

Ok here's the deal.... insasmuch as I'd like to support the site, I just don't ever visit it. Like, ever, really. (I see most of my puppetry pals on "the twitter" as the kids say) (Hi Naomi & Marc!)

So I decided that the emails via Puppet Hub were getting a bit much & I clicked the "Unsubscribe" link.  Get this... I can't unsubscribe unless I pay the $6! Big can of lameoids (which are like altoids, but lame). I tried to get in touch with them, but I just can't find a way to do it.

I tried to contact ning & they said that it's hosted by them anymore.  I used the url puppethub.ning.com

Any ideas?

For those who have not paid membership yet, can you see this page? http://www.puppethub.com/page/paid-access-info

It gives the details of things.  On it is an email address of admin(at)puppethub.com.  You should send an email to that address Stacey.  They should be able to go ahead and remove your account so you won't get any more emails. Make sure to give then all your details so they know what account it is. Smiley
