It Came from Uranus

I'm a teacher by trade, but I am also one half of Poor Fishy Films - a small, independent film company here in Ontario. We mainly do short comedy stuff for local film fests (and even won an award or two). Until now. We have just completed a script and begun casting our first feature-length film - a 1950s sci-fi spoof called It Came from Uranus. The cast will all be custom puppets, including aliens, a traveling envelope salesman, a waitress, and a scientist (to name a few). It will be a large undertaking and we kind of pride ourselves on doing these films one the shoe-stringiest of budgets, so it'll be a challenge to make something of quality while keeping costs down.
So hopefully all goes well. I have begun to come up with some puppet designs and will start building puppets in the next week or two. I will keep things up to date for anyone who might be interested. Should be a fun project. Stay tuned.

Here is the almost complete Ensign Xjntz, Intergalactic Minion and the first of ten custom puppets for our upcoming feature-length film, It Came from Uranus. He still needs arms, but they're really boring to do so I haven't done them yet..

Mostly it is used for fun, my granddad used this phrase a lot (I love wearing purple). Sometimes people joke if you wear purple to a date...
. It is a bit oldfashioned, though, maybe related to the old language of flowers?

Very fun! The big collar and cuffs really fits the 50s era. I like the shape of the hands.

Does the "antenna" wobble when they move their heads? All your details make it so intersting.

Yeah, they move. It's a neat effect. The purple guy's bulb will light up when I'm finished. Just need to get an LED and wire him up. I'll post a video when I get it all put together.
