This really should go in the books section of the forum (hint to Shawn or Billy!). I wrote a review today on this book, Cabaret Mechanical Movement: Understanding Movement and Making Automata. Although it has some great explanations of various mechanisms used in automata, it had a lot of bad points too... like not actually describing what automata is!
