I agree Shawn. They have a similar TV show here. Heads are latex, cast from clay sculpts of popular, or unpopular politicians etc. These ones seem to have eye mechanisms too, and most are two or three man puppets. Your observations on the green screen old lady, very good.

That is a clip from ZA News, a popular political web series from South Africa loosely based on Spitting Image (in fact, they were recently visited by one of the Spitting Image co-creators Roger Law!). They use a mixed bag of techniques to film the show, including green screen and a variation on the Czech black technique.

Here is a behind-the-scenes special about the show that includes a number of shots of the puppeteers at work:

Excellent behind the scenes! Really shows all the aspects of putting the show together. Love the fact that they showed them working with the easy chairs and the positions the puppeteers have to work from.

Check this one out. The Sandglass Theater.  more creative ways to combine puppets and people.

Very nice collaboration! I always enjoy the work of Sandglass Theater. The "marionette" used in the crawling scene is wonderful!

That was absolutely incredible! I don't think I've ever seen anyone use their knee as a puppet before.

That was great, and I am going to try it.  Thanks.

I was amazed how much "expression" he got without even a face!

Just when you think you've seen everything. Has anyone heard of Nick Cave.  This vid is a display of his costumes made out of recycled material.  There are other videos of shows he's done with dancing and movement.

"The Knee Puppet", Oh my gosh, I'm like a magnet when I see something.  I experimented making a knee puppet last night. Using googly eyes and "aunties" nose and mouth mask.  I was able to move the mouth and it looked like a real living creature. Very freaky and I guess creepy.  So I will try to fit him into the next episode (wich I have no idea what it will be) It may have to be a relative of auntie.  Other ideas for a face are now flying around.  I may have to start a whole new knee puppet series.  However it is very awkward to get shots without the rest of me in the picture.

Lol @ Director.  I'd say incorporate yourself into the bit if you can.  Like the guy in the video.  Can't wait to see!

Trick Marionettes Theater.  Is this what someone was asking about a while ago?
