I have been doing a tiny bit of research on gender distinction (there really IS a science for everything). Most differences between a male and a female face are quite subtle (length of nose and jaw, heighth of cheekbones...)and hard to do in foam, I guess. But as long as you don't do metalers (but there comes the beard into play) it is probably the easiest way to just go with the stereotype...

I agree on the hair. The short hair just did not do it for me. I added  breasts to her which turned out quite well. I cut two circles the cut a wedge out ( sort of like a peice out of pie) dart. sewed up the dart and wala breast. Ladder stitched to the body snd stuffed. They turned out great. I think the open mouth picture is funny, if you ever want to take a picture of them with their mouth partially closed you can put one of those big metal alligator clips inside the mouth to hold it closed more.  I put my puppet's body over plastic drink bottle weighted with a little sand or water to hold them up when my sons don't feel like being my models.

Thanks Snail, Beleive it or not I had bought a bottle of rootbeer just for the bottle to make a puppet holder. LOL. I'm still not real pleased with Bertha's expression , going to have to work on it a bit more.
