A Puppet Series  (Read 19263 times)

Hello everyone. I'm going to break my bad habit of posting videos all over the place in the forum, and try and keep them in the same place. I have made a few music videos and other odds and ends, but it's really the short episodes that are the most fun and challenging to make. We have completed 3 so far and we are now starting to shoot 3 more new ones (it takes a while!) I thought I could just add them to this thread each time I up load them to my Youtube channel, instead of annoyingly firing them into various sporadic topics. Here are the three in order so far, and as I say, new content is coming soon if you would like to see it, I will put it here. The sets are improving and so are the jokes, but the acting ain't! haha Thanks for watching, this community forum is full of inspiration and great work. It's really kicking me into trying harder  Smiley

Well I am in a hotel right now with a really lousy internet connection so can't get the videos to play so can't comment on them. I think it is great that you are going to post them all here though... that way when I get home I can view them all. Smiley  What I saw of the videos before though I think you guys did pretty good with the acting and it'll only get better with time.

Happy that we could inspire you. I am sure you are doing the same for others.  Keep it up!

I decided to use some audio from footage I had and make a small video in my new set build this evening. It worked out ok! I am confident that I can use the 'Shed' set in the new episodes, just need to adjust the lighting to be lit less from above I reckon. Anyway, here is the video:

I don't believe I have ever seen dueling banjos with just one banjo, you play good.  You could do your edit magic and use the same banjo with another puppet for the echo part.  Hampster in the wall is my favorite video, how do you keep that brick on the swing?  I think your acting is really good. You moved your mouth like you were working hard while you played the banjo, little movements like that add so much to puppets.

Hi Snail. Thank you for the kind words on the Banjo playing, I shall pass them on. It's actually our saxophone player John who is playing, he's also a master of the fiddle (he does a mean Devil Went Down to Georgia as well!) We considered the 'Eco' idea but we ran out of time to record the audio. My Brother will be pleased you like the 'Hampster in the Wall' episode, he says he had got into his writing rhythm by then - it's his fave as well. Again, thanks for noticing the 'concentration' puppet face pulling. I used to like the way Jim Henson would scrunch up Kermit's face when he was angry, such a simple but genius way of adding expression! Hopefully we will have some more episodes finished soon. Smiley

Seeing as it's getting to that time of year, here is our Christmas Song video.(one of our first - spot performers arms and hands!!! eek) Should be working on the new one (an original song no less!) but it's taking it's time! So this will have to do for now!! Happy Thanksgiving to all Smiley

I didn't see the hand just caught a bit of arm but it was not bad.  Nice work!

Good stuff! I hope our christmases are not quite as sad. (love the tissues-cleanex)I was thinking... it  would be nice, and I think you are very capable, if you were to work your musical numbers into a situation. Like in this one, they could be in the pub, one guy brings his beer and asks how's it going, and the other laments that his dog has died, and then launches into song.. and they finish.. donĀ“t  worry mate, we'll  just have to get  you a puppy for christmas...that might help, thanks mate...well, what are mates for?
by the way what are you working on at the  moment?

Thank You pagestep007- Yes, I hope every ones Xmas is a lot less tissue focused!I like your idea of writing scripted intros that lead into the songs rather than just a song for a song's sake. We shall work on doing that for the next song video - we have some ideas for a few already! Smiley At the moment I am working on filming the next 3 puppet band episodes, that have had the audio written and recorded. We are also doing some re-writes on two more episode scripts. Our guitar player wrote an original Christmas song, so I am editing the puppet video for that this week as I want to get it on our Youtube channel by 1st December! Lots to do, but my actual job (and gigs) keep getting in the way! icon_lol

Audio is my weakest performance skill since I can only hear out of one ear.  I noticed in your videos that sometimes the sound comes from the left headphone and sometimes from the right, so I missed all the lines when it switched to the leftside. Just thought I would mention it, not sure what causes that switching back and forth, are you using two different mics or two different sound tracks? I wonder if there is a way to set the sound on my computer so that it will have both tracks combined in one ear?  But then I have a hard time catching all the words of your lovely English accent, I guess I need subtitles in Texas drawl.

Hi Snail, that's interesting I didn't know my audio was behaving that badly. It maybe due to the fact I edit all this on my laptop, I think I'm going to have to get speakers to catch this kind of issue. I was assuming that it all went out mono (or all from the same side I mean) I shall do some snooping and figure out what is amiss... Can't have you only gettin half a story, although some of the jokes maybe worth missing! haha. As I have heard said in the movies, "I'll be back" altho I'm not 100% sure WHAT accent Arnie uses for that!

Seasonal Greeting everyone! Our guitar player wrote his very own Christmas Song, and we made a video to go with it.
Here is the World Wide Premier of 'Christmas Cheer', it gets better the more Sherry you drink. haha.  Smiley
