You've got several choices on mold and casting materials.  If you use silicone for the main mold you will probably want to use plaster or another material for a mother mold on the outside.  This is for support.

You can pour anything you want into the mold once made.  Polyurathane is a good choice.  If you want you can pour several layers of latex rubber for a skin followed by an inner layer of foam.  The latex can be pre colored to save time painting.  It isn't the easiest material to paint at any rate.

I'm no expert on this.  See a book called The Prop Masters Molding and Casting Handbook by Thurston James.  It can be picked up on Amazon.com.

Hallo, I'm back with some pictures of my new project. After building my first marionette, I think I have the marionette virus. Now the jester has some clothes on... so, I've been thinking... a knight, a jester, the dark ages... so there has to be a dragon. Here you see the first pictures of the dragon in progress. Love to hear some reactions or tips from you all.

Greetings from Belgium, Johian

Very nice.  Excellent sculpture, Johian.  I think you've captured a nice dragon.

hi everyone,

I want to make 2 more copys of the dragonhead. I want a dragon with 3 similar heads. Is there someone who can help me out with moldmaking. Haven't done this before, surfed a lot on the net but didn't realy find something to help me out.

Thx a lot.

Hey Johian:

I've not done a lot of this, but I can tell you that it is fairly striaght forward.  The best advice I can give you is to get a copy of The Prop Makers Molding and Casting Handbook by Thurston James.  You'll find everything you need to know there.  You should be able to get a copy from Amazon.com.
