no found the mouthplate  little stiff......It was hard to open it and close it. And it is difficult to get some grip in the lower jaw.

No kidding!
I just did a head for the same pattern, and the mouthplate its small, but with a right grips, works nice. Or maybe because I'm of small hands! I don't know (Could be!)

Use a thumb tube and connect it so it half-way hangs off the lower mouth plate. You will have more control now. If the top is too small, use a half ball grip with an optional strap.

I hate those small mouthboards too.
Like they say, "When your given lemons,....make lemonade"

When you seam the mouth together if the mouth plate is joined to tightly when you add the felt and everything else plus installing it in the head it could become very hard to move. Make sure to give yourself plenty of rome for all the fabrics that will be added later. Sonny is correct a half ball might help you nicely. Also I don't know how you joined the mouth but try slicing the back of the join careful not to go all the way through to releave the pressure.

What materials did you make the mouth out of?

i used stiff cardboard...fleece and some rubber mat which holds the cardboard together. I will do more puppets with this pattern, so I will check it better out next time.

Always remember to use a stonger absorbant material for the areas where your hands will be. I think Jay uses a high quality shammy. I use the Sham-Wow fabric, Its the orange sheets with Germany stamped on them...cheaper on ebay. Got the idea from him. Kudos Dr

I have a puppet made over seas and not to mention any names but, the mouth board has no grip and keeps moisture too much. Its hard to keep the puppet on your hand.

Sham-Wow never thought of using that Sonny. I may have to try that!
