Puppets, Puppets Everywhere Posted by Michael Poindexter on Jul 29, 2010
I'm just wondering if anyone else has noticed a recent uptick in the number of puppets on television?  Is it me because I have started to build and I'm just more aware or is there really something going on?

MTV has a series and I know I've seen more commercials.  I'll try to add some links to what I've seen.  Anyone else?

I was in F.A.O Swartz toy store in NYC last week and saw that they had a "Build A Bear" type of puppet product that is licenced by Henson studio.  You pick a type and features and they build it for you for $130.

It's called the What-Not-Workshop. You can also order an online packet and have them ship one.
One commercial in particular I remember about a few months back was the Weightloss Monster? He was bright orange and represented "Hunger"
Another I just saw yesterday was the Carfax Fox. It's CarFax.com?

Ill post more when I remember them.

I tend to agree with you Michael that there seems to be a lot more puppets showing up in TV.  I've noticed several commercials with them of late.

Warren The Ape is the MTV show.  I'm not going to link to it because it is typical MTV childishness.

Here is the Car Fox

I think the recent upsurge in puppets has to do with the internet for the most part.  It enabled everyone who couldn't get thier puppet art out to the masses because of the bajillion miles of thick red tape out to the masses in TV broadcasts.  Now, any and all of the past, new and future puppet makers pro's or newbie's can get thier works out for all to enjoy.  In doing so, studios have seen the benefit of low(er) cost puppet productions rather than expensive animated pieces by way of seeing how popular web puppet shows have become and with lower production costs, come higher salaries for those in charge of the production.  Hense, more puppet shows on TV.  At least thats my opinion.
