Good job Billy!    I thought we had talked about it before but could not remember the outcome or find it. Yep that sure looks like the right thing.  Now how are we going to remember this the next time someone ask?

JFP... I like the fabric you found all so. The nape is not as long but it could look really cool combined with the longer furry fleece.  I am thinking like on an animal where the fur around the face is shorter then the hair on the head or body or on body where the tummy is shorter nape.

Kim, I think the one you found is a much shorter nap, much like a chenille blanket.  Remember polyester does not take dye well, so dyeing probably won't work.

The red fur Billy posted comes in dark brown, black, cream, white and red.  I have used it before and it look great for birds, but my only caution is that it doesn't wear well.  It gets very fuzzy and looses its curl..

I'm still researching, I know I've come across it.  It's like our OHMY puppet. http://www.outoftheboxpuppets.com/index.php?act=viewProd&productId=7.  Even that fur came in different qualities.  You want something that has a very tight weave with a thicker backing that what is one the JoAnns fabric.

What color are you looking for?

Thanks Shawn and Julie,
Okay, it sounds like I should hold out a bit longer and keep hunting. I do want it to last quite awhile for the customer.
Let me know if you come across something. I will post when I find something else that I think might work, so that you can check it out first. You have seen alot, so you know WAY better than I do! Thanks for sharing your thoughts, I really appreciate it.

oh i forgot to answer your question- the colors will pretty much be the same as the picture up top- kind of a milk chocolate brown and a creamy white.
this is my rough sketch for how he will look-
(his snout will be a bit shorter)

Kim, I believe this may be what you are looking for.  It looks like you can order samples.

Joann's sometimes has the Minky Furs (which is what Julie posted above).  I've used them, they tend to shed a lot when you are cutting/sewing.  Quilt stores carry some of this too, as it is used for baby quilts/blankets.
