Do you use any sort of 'rest' during the performance, just to take the weight off? I can imagine it would be useful to occasionally put it on a stand for a few moments just to rest the upper arm muscles.
The puppeteers use the playrail to support the arm holding the puppet sometimes, but they have to hold the puppet up and move around a lot during the show.
It I use one of the puppets (outside the show - I'm more of a builder when a performer) I play the head thru the back of the head.

What's a payrail?

What's a payrail?
A horizontally mounted trussing (with a wodden plank on top) between the light trussing (left and right side of the stage). The area under the playrail is covered with molton - that's where the puppeteers are hiding.
The playrail is also used to attach front props.

I think Tioh left out the "l" in this first post which is what confused you. Playboard is another variation on the term.

I think we call it playrail because we had some front props that use it as a rail - a cutout of car, surfboard, boat, etc.

That makes sense.
