I agree that glasses and a bow tie would be excellent! Wonderful work!

Well, Prof. Inch is done.    I got some doll glass from Michaels and for now have dressed him in a Tie I swipped from my boys.  (I think their getting a little big for it anyway.)  Decided I didn't need the collar the tie works all by itself.  Still like the idea of a bow tie but I couldn't find one cheap so I went with an ordinary neck tie.

I haven't decided If I want to work on backdrops or another puppet next.  I'm leaning toward a back drop but I have some great ideas for a slug, an ant and a rhinocerus beetle.  so many great choices so little time and money.

Nice additions. They really add to his character.

Have you heard of Build-a-Bear store where you can get little clothing (made for teddy bears) great for puppets.  They sell little bow ties that will fit him perfect.  Just a thought.

I think I like the regular tie.  It kind of breaks the stereotype of a professor.  While I really want to see more puppets I think my vote is for you to work on some of the backdrops next.  Then again I am not sure I can wait to see your rhinoceros beetle. 

I'd love to show you him in action.  The problem is I don't have the equipment to do it.  But I'm working on it.  I have a friend thats into audio and video and I think it will be easy to get him to help me out.

I never buy bow ties for my characters, I make them form scrap fabric. I've included a short tutorial for you hope it helps:

First I cut my fabric to the length and width that I want, in the example the fabric is 10" long by 4" wide.  If your fabric is kinda on the flimsy side you can add a piece of stiff interfacing which you can buy from the fabric store or Wal Mart.  You don't have to buy the iron in kind but you do want it to be stiff, if you go to a fabric store ask for the kind that is used for lapels or belts or just feel it you'll be able to tell.


Second: fold the fabric so the the top and bottom meet each other:

Third:Bring the right and left sides together, you want them to over lap about 1/2":

Fourth:Tie in the middle with some strong thread, it should "puckle".

Fifth: Cut a strip a few inches long about 1" wide, you may want to turn the ends under if your fabric frays on the ends.

Sixth: Lay the piece on top of your bow and bring the ends towards the back and pull it very tight and sew in place. VIOLA!! A BOW TIE!!!!You can attach a strip of fabric to the back of the tie long enough to go around the puppet's neck and secure.  Hope this helps!!!!!

 I have pictures to post for you to see what I'm talking about the I'm not able too.  It keeps telling me my file is too big, I took the pics at the smallest setting so I'm not sure what the problem is
