Coming to the net soon - puppet chat! Posted by Na on Jun 16, 2008
I'm going to be starting a podcast soon (for those who don't know, a podcast is just an internet radio show), and wanted some input from you guys.
The good thing about my podcast is that you, the average listener, will be able to:
a) listen in
b) text chat
and c) even call in via your phone or computer! (Computer phoning is free; phoning will cost you money)
This is great, because it means we can have live audio discussions, and not just a one-directional radio show. Plus, we can do interviews, discuss builds, promote shows/classes/products, etc.
I've already got some segments sorted out for the first couple of episodes, but I'm interested in hearing from you what you'd be interested in. Additionally, if you'd be keen on doing interviews, let me know!

Forgot to mention: I'm looking at doing this every Monday night at 9.30pm (UTC+10). That's about 7.30am NY time, 4.30am Canada (Vancouver) time on the Monday. I know it's early for some of you; I was trying to find a good middleground. If someone has a better suggestion for the time, let me know.

Hi Na,
Too bad it will be way too early for me to listen to. At 4am i am usually sound asleep.
But one thing i could suggest, why not record the radio sessions and offer them for future downloads for anybody who missed your passed shows? I know i would love to listen to your podcast on my psp. I would just have to download it (it would have to be in mp3 or mp4 format) and would be able to listen any place any time.
Just a suggestion.
Puppet hug,
SHould

Oh sometimes I stay up that late so I might be able to catch your show. If it is at 7am on the east, that means it will be 1am for me....yeah, I'm ALWAYS up at that time! Count me in for listening....HOW FUN. I can't wait. I don't know if I would be interesting enough to be interviewed but definitely will chime in for chatting. I have never heard of podcasting before so this will be very interesting to me. Please keep us updated and good luck!!!
Aloha,
Nikole
Yeah a schedule would be awesome!

Thanks for offering such a good idea. Like SHould I won't able to get up that early.....not much of a morning person in the first place . I understand that it is hard to pick a time to meet everyones needs......have you thought about weekends, more of the day that people are around? .......just a thought
I wish you luck with it. Maybe recording it so we can listen to it would be a nice idea.....thanks SHould for the idea!

Looking forward to your podcast.Sounds very interesting.
Perhaps in the future you could add a webcam and have a talk show. The David Letterman of puppets.Just think of the possibilities. It could become a little bizzare.or a lot depending the night and the guests!

Sounds like a good idea...unfortunately, like the others I too would have to listen to a prerecorded version(time zone issues) I'm eastcoast USA. I'm not familiar with podcasts...I've never heard or been a part of one before.

Oh, I should have mentioned: yes, of course, the episodes will be available for download once they've been recorded. You'll be able to subscribe via iTunes, or whatever system you have set up to listen to podcasts.

Yes, once I work out a good time, and get the first episode worked out, I'll be posting a schedule. The site that I'll be doing this with allows me to set a time for recording, so you'll be able to see future episodes on the schedule, and when I'm live on air.

I picked Monday night arbitrarily, so I don't mind changing it. I just wasn't sure whether or not people would want to, or have time to, listen on the weekend. What about a Friday or Saturday night instead? I can always make the time later by an hour or so.

Actually, one of the sites I was checking out had the ability to use a webcam. There were a number of problems with the rest of the site though: there was no way to tell what their server time was, in order to schedule shows. There was also no easy way of uploading episodes if I prerecord them. The site that I've decided to use doesn't allow webcams unfortunately.

A podcast is just a radio show done on the net. You can listen to it live, or download the music file (usually an MP3 file). The way I'm setting mine up, I can host a live chat room and talk at the same time: and you can 'call in' just like in talk radio shows.
I tested it out this morning, with a UK-based show - it was very weird, but very cool! I had an audio conversation with the host, all the way from here!
I'm still figuring out how everything is going to work, so I'll keep you posted on any updates, and when the podcast will be ready to go.
