Easy Pattern Making? Posted by David on Jul 02, 2008
Is this the way forward to making puppet patterns... easily?

I doubt it. Although I've not used the program, it's designed for 3D paper crafting, and it would have tabs (extra bits of paper to slot or glue the whole shape together) added into the designs. If you're trying to figure out how to make a pattern, why not first share with us what type of puppet you're trying to make (I'm guessing muppet) and the shape.

Also, search for Andrew's 'wedge' tutorial here, which may give you some ideas - and is similar to the concept of the above 3D paper crafting.

I think it could be help in development of new shapes but as Na mentions you would have to take into consideration that it would have the extra "bits" for paper crafting.

Well exactly that was my intention, create something in 3d and use this program to at least produce some paper patterns to adapt into a final shape.

I'll do some experimention and report back.

This sounds promising. Thanks for looking into it, David.

Ok, I gave up trying that software since it requires a 3d model to work from, so I purpose this new piece of software I've found, originated from Japan probably

http://www.den.rcast.u-tokyo.ac.jp/~yuki/plushie/index-e.html

Check out video, a user study seeing stylus operated laptop draw the pattern and then the users transfering the patterns to fur and things to create their... creations.

The software is online in demo mode, I have yet to try it, and it looks like the patterns may need cleaning up afterwards...

Looks intruiging, maybe this COULD be THE answer for easy pattern making maybe?
