Good sport and except things the way they are............hmmmmm if people always except things the way they are there would still be slaves, women wouldn't be able to vote for change, what the hell football players would still be wearing leather helmets!
There is always room for improvement, as an artist, a judge, a Company.......
Not all feedback will be good feedback, but without feedback you don't know what people think. If your not capable of receiving feedback you may need to look at yourself in a mirror, and realize your way may not be the right way!
Im willing to say my way may not be the right way, but by talking about it someone else may..
Just like the gentleman said there were only 28 entries, why not have the people who entered vote for the puppet and not be able to send in a vote for your own design! then you will get a real peoples choice! without discussion these new ideas will not arise, so to say except things the way they are is crazy!
FOOD FOR THOUGHT!
in a trial the Judge is the trained professional, college, law school the works, but who decides the persons fate........the untrained no law school out of the local area Jury! its what the people think not a judge..think about it!
.For the guy who said i may have to worry about the future..............not worried about future work opportunities, I already have a career, and retire in 5 years, I made the puppet for halloween for my kids! Once again I feel sorry for you who have to do this for a living. Cause if you cant enter a contest and talk about it without worrying about future job opportunities I can see why nobody wants to say anything.
Freedom of Speech!

Thanks for sharing your thoughts Fonzo....best of luck on your retirement and you should be proud of the puppet you made......I think you made your point on this topic and now it is time to focus on the puppets chosen and for others to send in your votes.
Best of luck to all finalists......

Gosh, I thought this site would not turn out like the others, but humm.... Can't we just disagree nicely? It's just a contest, for fun. I really don't care who the judges pick out of 28 or 128, the last contest did not generate such attitudes. I feel this contest was to just to stretch a persons creativity. I feel that since Project Puppet is the one giving out the prize they are entitled to decide who they want to judge. And no I did not enter the contest because I found out to late, but I feel that all the entries were good in their own unique way. I know everyone wants to win the "prize" but I feel the real "prize" is to see just how much you can push your own talents and learn from others. I have entered a lot of contests before, not puppet, and no I did not win each and every one but what I walked away with was far better then the prize, just knowing that I could dig down into the creative side of me and see what I could come up with and knowing that I'm a winner no matter what. I tell my nieces and nephews that all the time, you're not going to always win, you're not going to always like who does the judging or who they pick so just go in with a positive attitude and learn as you go and ask yourself what can I do better the next time. Hope I didn't step on any "toes" but can we keep the peace? Unless you are the one holding the contest don't "judge" who the judges are. I feel that it is poor sportsmanship to say that you will not enter a contest because you don't like who the judges chose as finalist, but hey it's your choice so your are entitled. If I find out in time about the next contest I will enter...if only to see what I can come up with. As Darly said, it time now to focus on the puppets chosen and for others to send in their votes, I've casted mines.
Peace,
Angel

This contest was a push up for me. Gave me extra power. It gave atention from media in Iceland. People will know more about me and my puppet building. Which is just a hobby.
This contest is just for fun with a little carrot, 200$. Its the only contest I have found on the Internet.
I hope one day I can meet someone here face to face and learn something from you. Maybe I´ll come to the US one day:)

I have not sent a puppet to puppetcontest, but I have been checking the site everyday since 1st November, I was really looking forward to see the top ten!
I really like some of the puppets, I do not like others so much... that is all. I think a puppet is better or worse depending also on what it is intended for. A gift for a friend? Performance? Is it for little children, 14 years old, adults?
Which comic is better: Marvel's Heroes, Calvin and Hobbes or the Freak Brothers? I prefer Calvin, but several friends of mine thinks it's boring.
I think the contest is to show the versatility of the patterns (not just the patterns from project puppet, whatever), and helps every puppet maker to see ideas to catch for him own.
I would like there were different categories for the different patterns, even without prize (I mean, best sock puppet, best melonhead puppet... besides the "best of all" with the prize, but just to see more than ten puppets).
I liked the contest, and I am looking forward to see the next!

I agree with Angel. One thing I've liked about this site ever since I signed up was the absence of negativity. I don't think anyone here is burying their head in the sand it just that we want a place where we can positively interact with each others about puppets. There are enough opportunities in life to experience negativity.
When I was in college I worked as a Resident Assistent. One of our opperating rules we had was that we only talked to people about problems if they were 1) part of the problem or 2) part of the solution. If we went furthur than that we were only making the problem bigger. In the nearly twenty years since then I've found that this is a good rule for life.

Hi there!
I promised to post a link to the interview, that was in an Icelandic TV station tonight. Here it is. http://dagskra.ruv.is/streaming/?file=4398121/16
I know you dont understand Icelandic, but they thought it just a little bit strange or funny, that a 33 year old father of 2 daughters in Iceland is making puppets instead watching soccer games or something.
