Miguel:

On Halloween, we have a tradition, also called beggar's night, were kids go from house to house dressed up requesting candy.  They say "Trick or treat" meaning "give me a treat or I'll play a trick on you".  Kids love it of course.

I'm sorry! I don't want to sound like religious person, but that's not a good tradition to practice for a christian!

Starting again! Sorry

Hey Spoon....

That is a great theme for Halloween I love the work outside and then the lead up to the costumes.

Thanks for putting that together.

Miguel:

No need to apologize Miguel.  I agree with you.  Dressing up and eating candy is fun, but the underlying spirit of the holiday is one of fear and death.  With that said, I still dressed up myself.  We had a Bible heros dress up party at my place with games and snacks.  We also handed out candy and comic books illustrating the life of Abraham to our trick or treaters.  I think of it as an evangelistic event for the kids who come to the door for candy.  The party becomes a chance for Christian fellowship.  Both good things.
I was Dorcas (she sewed) this year.  I wore a red sari and a necklace decked with sewing accessories.  My best friend was the wife of Manoah, Samson's mom.  My favorite was a teen who dressed up as Lazarus dressed in a white tunic and burial clothes wrapped around her head.  The party favorite was Goliath with a rock imbedded into his head and an ice pack.  My daughter was a frog from the ten plagues.  My boys where jailbirds - Paul and Silas.  We also had angels, Samson, David and the second oldest man in the Bible who's name alludes me right now.  We had a bunch of non-dressed up folks and some who came as non-Bible characters as well.

I'm sorry this thread was suppose to be about the fun time my neighbors, friends and kids had on halloween night...It wasn't about anything religious, nor did I attempt to make it that way...I am sorry if it was seen that way. My family just likes to dress up and play and halloween is a good time for that!!!

Sincerely,

Spoon

You don't have to apologize Spoon.  I don't think you're "evil" for enjoying Halloween.  It can be innocent fun too.  It just so happens that Halloween began as a religious holiday so the association exists whether or not you celebrate it that way.
