Black Antron Fleece..... Posted by StiqPuppet Productions on Nov 03, 2008
I have dyed Antron Fleece many colours but black. When I tried dyeing a small piece it turned out as a brown and then I added more black dye and it only went to a dark brown and now I have a dark brown Antron Fleece. I am very confused about why this happened since I used two bottles of RIT liquid dye with a failed result. Any suggestions? Any one have the same problem?

To get a true black you will probably have to go with a acid dye

........... now I have not tried this yet but I read somewhere if you add a cup of white distilled vinegar to the rit dye it will help but I'm not sure this is true.
Paula Burch reccomends Jacquard dye

Black is a hard color to dye. Let us know how it turns out.

I've managed to dye it a dark grey, but not real black. I don't know how you managed to get brown.

as mentioned in 'Foam Book', to get really black Antron fleece with the RIT dye you probably should leave your Antron in the dyebath overnight.

I don't get how I got dark brown either?
I will try all methods and get back to you all and see what works.
Thanks for the feedback.

While I haven't worked with Antron fleece personally and I'm a bit of a newbie here on the forum, from cosplay experience I can honestly say that some materials take RIT Dye REALLY strangely. I've seen anything from purple to blue - and yes, to brown.
Leaving the fabric in the dyebath overnight may help, though, as previously mentioned. The trouble is that the black dye just takes so strangely to things, it's impossible to say what will happen with your batch.

I can get black in about 20 min. the trick is to do it on the stove and get the water almost to the point of boil add the die and stir constantly.
