I can get black in about 20 min. the trick is to do it on the stove and get the water almost to the point of boil add the die and stir constantly.
 
That's how I've done it and I've never had any problems getting a deep dark black.

Thanks guys for sharing your experience.  I will have to do this colour on a stove top unlike the rest of the colours.

I experienced the same problem with the antron fleece turning dark brown instead of black when I used the RIT dye.  HOWEVER, eventually, I achieved a true black color when I used the black dye from ALJO Manufacturing in New York.  This worked!  It turned the antron fleece black when I used it.   Hope this helps.

Which type of dye did you use from Aljo. Was it the Basic - Alcohol/Water Dye?
