Hi I am planning to pick up the project puppet glorified sock puppet soon and I'm wondering what people think of it. And any advice you might have with using the pattern. Thanks

Also I've been having trouble looking up antron fleece and was wondering some good places to get it, or if there is a really cheap material I could use to practice, more so I can get the hang of building a puppet before I use the really nice stuff to make one I'd use.

I do not know the price for e.g. polar fleece, but it's for sure cheaper than Antron.
you can also practise on plain cotton material I suppose - I did it before I covered my puppet's head for the first time.

and sorry, I cannot be helpful on sock puppet - but if you'd need any info on roly, pinhead, punto or rotondo (I'm waiting for it right now) I can help then.

Polar fleece is by far the way to go, if you want cheaper.  Don't know where you live, but in the US, it runs $4 - $8 per yard.  Sometimes even cheaper.  I've been making puppets for a long time, and I have yet to buy the expensive antron.  I really want to, because it looks so awesome, but the polar fleece will work too.
I have used the Sock Puppet pattern....it's very simple, and explanitory.  It does not have a foam head base, which makes it very easy to put together.

I've used the sock puppet pattern for everything from a dog to a frog and have been very happy with it. -Steve

The sock pattern involves lots of sewing so just be aware it isn't a glue together project.  I would recommend to look at getting a sewing machine for this type of pattern however it can be done with hand sewing if you choose.

BTW ALL of project puppet patterns are great!!! Easy to understand instructions with Professional results.

Welcome to Puppets and Stuff.  I won't add to great advice you've already gotten.  I just want to encourage you to take the plunge.  I think you'll find that puppet building is a great hobby and is much easier than it looks like it could be.  Just be patient and take it one step at a time.

The glorified sock puppet is a great pattern to start with.  (I'm a big fan of Project Puppet as well.)  My favorite thing to make with this pattern is little furry monsters.
