FINISHED puppet by tsu Posted by tsu on Nov 08, 2008
Hi guys,

As you know, I'm a absolute newbie on puppetry so please be understanding towards that "test" puppet. It's not finished yet, even the head (I need to make ear, hair etc.), everything is still in progress and will take a bit of time due to this all is new for me and I'm still learning (and I'm at the very beginning).
For the head I used Project Puppet's Punto pattern with my own modifications for the lips.
As for covering - I didn't use any pattern, I was inspired by Jay's video for covering the head. The seam runs between the eyes towards the top of the head and underneath the lips.
I'm thinking of a nose for this puppet, but I'm afraid it might destroy his innocent look
I need to experiment a bit.

Please, let me know what you think of it so far.
(his original color is light blue, here he looks like white one...)

Thanks,
Iza

Hi Iza,

great looking puppet! Lovely head already. Kids will love him very much, even without ears ;o)

Greetings Johian

PS thx for sharing the pictures and please keep us informed with every progress you make by posting the photos.

I will.
Thank you for nice words, Johian. They're very encouraging!
Ears will be for sure, I'm just not convinced of a nose

Iza, he's adorable!  I'm really impressed...being that he's your first puppet.  You would never know that you've not made puppets before.
Great work!
How did you make his eyes?  I love the technique.
Keep up the good work, and keep the pictures coming.  LOL

Sara! Thanks! I didn't suppose you would like him so much!

As for the eyes - for whites I used a foam core (2mm thick), cut the holes in polyfoam, used glue gun and glued them in the holes, then cut the holes in a foam core for irises. I couldn't use the poppers because irises' ends stuck out too little of foam core so I just glued it.

Tsu

I knew you could do it................... You are doing great job ! No way but to the top now. I knew when you got started that you would figure things out. From our first conversation I could tell you had a passion for building puppets. You're going to be fine Peanut  Thats your new nick name.

Excellent work Tsu! The puppet looks extremely neatly made so far, I congratulate you! I think you're on the right track and I can't wait to see the end result!

By the way, what did you make the eyes out of?

gdub, thanks! really, really nice to hear... errr, read that! :D

now I'm working on ears for my puppet. I've just finished to sew them up and they're prepared to be glued. I'll show you the results tomorrow (err, today, it's 01:33 am here in Poland, but once 'The Fly' on TV is finished, I'm going to sleep ).

as for the eyes, I already wrote it for Sara, let me paste it:
As for the eyes - for whites I used a foam core (2mm thick), cut the holes in polyfoam, used glue gun and glued them in the holes, then cut the holes in a foam core for irises. I couldn't use the poppers because irises' ends stuck out too little of foam core so I just glued it.

hope it is clear enough

Boy, there is experience and there is talent. . . You clearly have the talent, this being your first puppet. Just outstanding. As you gain experience, well, who knows what great puppets you will make. This little fellow is just wonderful. His eyes are just soulful.
