I'm experimenting with the nose now and I don't like it. I dunno, maybe this puppet needs to have very small one or nothing at all...

Awesome peepers on that puppet......you are doing a great job for the first one......can't wait to see it finished.

I agree with making the nose a very tiny one to not take away from those eyes.

I like that billy reminds me of peanut! In my opionion the nose might look better smaller and a little more abstract less...nose like if that makes any since. Although both ideas have merrit, TSU just needs to which direction she wants it to go in. You know the nose I am thinking of is from the muppet show wayne and wanda. Their noses are more abstract. Just hinted to really.

You're right Doc.................... the nose on my drawing is a little big................. My drawing skills are not as good as they use to be in my younger days. The nose should just be slightly visible under the fleece. Do you usually sculpt noses like this and add it to the foam skull and then cover with fleece or do you just sew it to the outside?
I'm finding this build interesting and admire some of our newest members for grabbing the bull by the horns so to speak and tackling these type building challenges.

I prefer my faces to be softer so I sculpt all my noses and glue them to the foam then cover. You will see what i mean when I get the DVD ready for you.
......incidently your drawing skills are just fine to me. I rather liked your render!

since Billy mentioned of Peanut, I suppose I may continue this topic now.....
do not please look at this "test" puppet. it didn't suppose to be Peanut. this is just a "training puppet" so to speak, to see how the things are and if I'm able to build any puppet at all.

Billy, your drawing is nice and thanks very much for it! but when it comes to a chin, Peanut hasn't a protruding one. a lower lip is just there. I do not know if I'm allowed to show an original picture of him on here.....................................?

.....and I'll have to experiment with the head pattern for him. I was looking at his head in every angle and it looks like at the front he's got a round shape and in profile - a bit like '"punto".

I've been thinking of sculpting a nose out of a modelling clay, like Jay did in his video tutorial. and independently of using a clay I would try to do it with nipping a foam as well. and looking at Peanut I can see his nose was added at the end, after the head is covered with fleece.

btw, to make use of an opportunity, since Billy showed his drawing of Peanut, I would like it to do as well...:

Both Tsu and Billy do very well when it come to drawing.

In regards to nose attachment you can attach it either before or after you cover with fabric.  Attaching before tends to make the nose seem more of an integrated part of the face rather than a part that was added on.  What you c hose I guess would depend on the look you're going for.

exactly Jon. as I think that nose will be kinda experimental too, I'm forced to add it (probably glue it) after a face will be covered with fleece, as a separate part of a face feature.


...and when it comes to my current puppet I think I give up with the nose completely. I've tried with several noses and nothing seems to be fine for me. I'll give it a last try with very tiny one, as stiqman said, and if I would not like it too, I left it as it is now.
I already built the arms and palms with wires for this puppet but it's not covered with the fabric yet. I'm thinking of fur for all my puppet's body but this problem is still not solved. (oh my God, it means I'll be forced to use a sewing machine for the first time in my life... that will take forever......)
