stiffening the neck Posted by tsu on Nov 15, 2008
hi guys,

I did a little search but couldn't find any answer on this - how do you, if at all, stiffen/reinforce the neck?
what I mean is: I don't want to have a loose, flat neck which folds itself with every move; I would prefer to build a more stiff/rigid neck that holds its shape somehow...
how could I accomplish this goal?

Oh this is easy! When you sew the neck so in a peice of liner foam. Its a thin sheet of foam with a material bonded to one side. Sandwhich the foam between the fleece and the material on the back of the liner then sew through any machine or you can do it by hand.

great idea! I'll have to look for it.
can I use anything instead of foam liner until I find it? can I try art/craft foam too? I know there is no material bonded to one side, but I can use some cotton fabric then.
(I'm wondering if I'd find a small square of foam liner; I did a little search on the Internet and there was 2m x 2m for instance...)

I don't think we are talking of the same thing. Tell you what I will snap a shot of it and upload it here.

Jay,
Are you referring to the auto headliner that can be bought at Hancock Fabrics?

I'll have to give that a try. One of the managers is always saving and giving me scraps of fabric.  She just gaive me about 2 yards of the headliner a few days ago.  I love free stufff.

great I use the 1/8 inch stuff for necks so it takes out the wrinkles but does not stiffen it to much.
