I take all my puppet pictures in the basement under good light with the flash off so the colors don't wash out.

Hmmm...that's a thought....although I don't have a basement I can use! LOL
Maybe night time would work just as well.(?)

The basement location isn't key here. The idea of using no flash is the important part. This suggestion is available on Project Puppet on how to submit photos to the gallery. I'm also starting to clip my mouths shut for photography as well using the clip that Pasha demonstrates in one of his tutorials.
