Another strange puppet-related video Posted by Ron G. on Nov 22, 2008
Another kinda sorta puppet-related video from days gone by. This is a curiously mechanized cross between a marionette and a ventriloquist-type puppet - in the shape of an anthropomorphic guitar. I'm not sure of the time frame, but I'm guessing that the clip is from sometime in the 1940s - maybe a little earlier or later. Alvino Rey was a pioneer of electric instruments and the steel guitar in the big band era, and was able to use it to recreate the human voice surprisingly well using an invention of his similar to what would become known as a "Talk Box".

I hope that you like it. I love anthropomorphics, and old-fashioned "hard" style ventriloquist figures. This clip really puts me in the mood to watch old films noirs.

Anybody here have information on the puppet? Who made and/or performed it?

The guitar guy is a neat puppet and had much detail movement.
