When I got the foam book I had already built three puppets from scratch without a pattern. As a result of that I didn't find the book very helpful since I had figured most of it out through trial and error already. That being said it is a good book for teaching the basics of puppet building particularly if you want to learn the nip tuck method.
For me personally I've found more valuable information on puppet building for free by searching the web.
