Yes I am just wondering what size foam is the most popular to use??? I was thinking of using 1/2 inch for the head and 1 inch for the body, is this the best way to go??? Any input would be greatly appreciated. THANK YOU, THANK YOU VERY MUCH!!

Its a good idea the way you want to try. But, you have to have in mind the texture (I don't know how to call it) of the foam (More in the case of the 1/2 for the head), because sometime is too floppy that you can't work well with it.

I generally have used 1/2 inch foam for the whole puppet though some do use 1 inch for the body as you have suggested. Miguel does have a good point about the rigidity of the foam. If the foam is not dense enough it will not hold its shape. I've been buying my foam from Joann Fabrics and their 1/2 inch foam is fine. I'm considering geting foam from a regional foam supplier to save money but have been putting it off till I have time to make the trip. When I take that step I'll need to compare densities to make sure I get a foam that will perform the way I need it to.

In Poland where I am there is no 1/2 inch foam, so I use 1 or 2cm one. 2cm I use especially for a body but since I've noticed 2cm foam is more solid (it's obvious) and the head doesn't fold itself with every stronger touch when built with 2cm foam, I use that one for the head as well.

PS. I do not know how to compare polish foam density with US one, but I use 35kg/m3 (in my country a standard one is 25kg/m3)

The conversion from cm to in is 2.54 cm per inch. So 1 cm is a little thinner than 1/2 inch and 2 cm is roughly equal to 3/4 in.

but I just wanted to say here is no equivalent for 1/2 inch foam :P
My thought is that they call it 1 cm but it is actually 1/2 inch. Sometimes we need to make life easier.
Personally I have only used 1/2 " and had no problems.
