My thought is that they call it 1 cm but it is actually 1/2 inch.
I have to agree with you there Daryl. Have you ever really taken a measuring tape to your foam? In fact apply one to a 2X4 board and you'll find that it is not really 2" X 4".

Yes thats true Shawn its actualy 3 and a quater by 1 and 3/4 or something like that.
I use 3/4 for the head and body. Around the mouth I use half inch when needed and in some cases 1/4 inch.

When I worked as a framing carpenter they told me that lumber gets its size names from the dimensions in which it is rough sawn. Before you buy it at the lumber yard all the sides have been planed smooth reducing the over all dimensions. The result is that 2x4s are 1 1/2 x 3 1/2. If you tear into the walls of some old houses you'll find that the lumber has not been planed and they are actually 2x4.

I never knew that thanks Jon! I knew they had some very neat old wood and ways of doing things in the old houses. Some of that wood is still worth a bundle.

I'm not surprised. The US is about the only country still using the empiric measuring system. It only stands to reason that the rest of the world would adjust its industries to the most common units of measure.
