HELP!!!  I'm new here and would like to make and sell puppets.  Can anyone recommended a good insurance carrier for product liability insurance for the puppets?  Thanks

You would get insurance liability through whoever you ship with at the time when you ship a puppet out.

I hope that this answers your question.......I am not sure what you really mean by liability insurance except when you ship items out?

I hope that you got the answer?

Thanks for your response.  Sorry for the confusion.

Here's a scenario for clarification, let's say, I make a professional performance puppet and sell it online.  The puppet specifically indicates that it's not a toy.  Someone's child picks up the puppet, terrorizes it, pulls apart the puppet eye and chokes on it.

Can anyone recommend an insurance company that would provide product liability insurance coverage for such an incident?  Thanks much

I have never heard of that as an issue with any of the puppet makers or artists in general.  I have sold many and never even crossed my mind most people know that they are made for professional reason's and not as a toy.  I have heard about insurance for puppet plays in case the stage falls on a kids head or a light but nothing about selling a puppet for performance or display only.

Just my thoughts.....

Product liability is usual for companies like factories, etc. I think most small companies (like us puppet makers) normally can't afford to purchase a policy - I know here in Australia it can cost about $2k per year - and don't worry about it too much.

Product liability is completely different from personal or public liability insurance, in that it protects you in case someone hurts themselves from the products you sell - as narrowduv explains above.

Narrowduv, I recommend contacting any local insurance company and asking to see their product liability policies. Most will offer one, and it shouldn't matter that it's for puppets or not; I've seen sample policies before, and while they ask for specifics about your product/s, they shouldn't turn you down simply because you make puppets.

Also, you may want to add a small tag or product information with a disclaimer on it when selling your puppets.
