Gingy Posted by puppetfreak on Dec 14, 2008
Hey for the Holidays I wanted to create a Gingerbread man like Gingy from Shrek the Musical But I wasn't sure what I should do for the mouth and for the icing. If anyone can help me please post. Thank you all for reading this!

Depending on the size of your Gingy, you could use cord for the icing. A smaller Gingy might be able to use a round white shoelace. Round red bootlaces are also available. If you are going larger, then a nylon or cotton cord might work.

I would have to agree...nylon or cotton round cord is what I would use

Try this stuff...It really looks like icing. I use this on alot of puppet applications.

Scribblers 3D paint:
-Jo-ann's:

When it dries it stays raised on the fabric...just like icing and you wont need any glue because it bond to the material.

I do like the white cord idea, it all depends on you.

But I'm still not sure how I would use it. I would like to use a string but I'm not sure how. I am also using foam for the body and dying it brown.

With the cord idea I would draw a line where you want the cord to go and make sure that everything looks round and even.  Then glue the cord to the foam (using the same glue as you did with the foam) section by section following the line.  With the cord idea it is really easy to see when the lines aren't nice and even because it stands out so much, so for a professional look make sure you take your time and go little by little the results will be great in the end.

Hope this helps.......

I think both the cord and the 3D paint would work great for the icing on the gingerbread.  The Paint would look more shinny and the cording would be more dimensional. but both would work well.  You would simply apply the paint like icing if you went that route.  The cording, I think, would be best attached with hot glue.

Thanks everyone! Now I was woundering if there was an alternate to foam dye or a better question is what is a good way to dye foam? I painted a little peice of foam and it looks well but I used terpera paint like the one in Lakeshore. Is there anything I should look out for?
