Video edition help Posted by miguel on Dec 22, 2008
Hi, Guys!
I'm doing some videos with the puppets I made.

But, I just wondering: How can I do to edit the green background just using windows video maker or the wax (I got wax software but the video file which is mpg don't work with it)?

I need a lot help on this!

Thanks again

Miguel!

Do you have a "ChromaKey" Option? You need to have the green screen filmed bright and without shadows. Your subject should also be lit up(not drunk) with separate lights.
I'm not sure what your having probs on. Could you detail where your having the problem?

Do a web search for "how to chroma key".  There are several video tutorials describing what you need to do.

Hi,

Well, The problem I have with wax is that don't allow me to upload the video file (mpg file). Now, Windows video maker doesn't have(At least I don';t see it) any option for greenscreen!

Thanks again

Accourding to the Wax site, it supports all video formats. It does list avi and wav before that. Is there anyway you could convert to avi format first if you are having a problem with mpeg? I assume that when you say upload you are meaning that it won't let you bring the mpeg file into the program, is that right?

You have to add the chromakey transition to Microsoft Movie Maker.  a few months ago I found the code for adding a blue screen option that works quite well.  I sure there must be a green screen option as well.

I tried using WAX but found that it only supported .avi formatted video.  You can use movie maker to convert your video by uplaoding it as a new project and then publishing it as .avi formatted video.  There are other converters out there as well but I didn't have much luck with the free ones I found.

WMM does have some transitions you can use for Chroma key.  Hope on over to the Windows Movie Makers site and check out their forums.  Search for Chroma Key. Here is just one such search. Search Results for Chroma Key.

It involves createing an xml file that is saved in Program Files > Movie Maker > Shared > AddOnTFX if you are useing XP.  I created three of the transitions and saved them on my set up and it worked pretty well.  I zipped the files up and added them to my Gallery Album so you could down load them you want. ChromaKey.zip

You might also want to keep an eye on Blaine's Movie Maker Blog.  He has created a Transition called Comp A add B but it is for Vista only.  He mentions he may create it for XP at some point.  I think this is the right post at the WMMS forums that explains how to mannually do this in XP: http://www.windowsmoviemakers.net/Forums/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=60032
