Hello!! Posted by DanaeWaldorf on Jan 04, 2009
Hello everyone!!!Happy New Year!!I'm new here!!I'm 18 years old and I go to university of Athens and study so as to be a kindergarten teacher in the future...!So..this period I have to find some ideas for puppetry..any help would be appreciated.Well,my teacher told me to find a puppetry script which will have to do with the environment.But..it ll be sth like pantomime..with no words-chatting between the characters of the story..just moves with the dolls..and sounds either coming out from us or from cd.The story must be short..about 10 minutes long.Well,I have to find sth to both entertain the children but also to pass them general concerns about the environment..kind of difficult cause its a new experience for me because I've never done this before..!!So..I would be thankful if you could give me some ideas.thank you.

Welcome to Puppets and Stuff............................ In America this is one of the requirements for many people going to college to be a teacher. I think it teaches good communication skills between the teacher and the student. Shawn our Administrator made arrangements to connect with " Puppet Resources " they have free scripts that people freely submit online. You may try finding one there.

Hi Danae, welcome to the group!

I don't have a script for you, but I think that it would be great if you had a puppet that looked like a living pile of garbage - a real mess, not neatly assembled. Even though they aren't supposed to speak it would add a lot to the character if it had a moving mouth, to add facial expressions - and maybe even eat more garbage, like the Cookie Monster eats cookies. It could be a really fun character. Maybe it could start small and get bigger and bigger, using a series of similar-looking puppets.

I'm glad that you found us, and hope that you can find what you're looking for here.

You right Ron, do you remember the post here where someone made a tutorial on how they made a puppet from the trash from unwrapping christmas gifts ?

Here are some others I found quickly

The puppet ministry in my church goes with a mission group to a non english speaking country and performs every year and they use mostly "Beyond Words" skits.  These skits communicate everything without any speaking parts.

You could have a character always drinking everything from disposable bottles and throwing them down until a mountain of plastic bottles  is accumulated.  At the same time you could have another character drinking from a reusable bottle to illustrate the impact simply drinking from a reusable bottle could make.

You oculd make a skits that teaches how to recycle.

Why not use shadow puppets?  I think this style of puppetry lends itself very well to wordless shows.

Hello
Welcome.
Another idea you could try.Is using 2 puppets,1 a litterbug of sorts, the other following the 1st around and correcting the things it has done wrong!

Thank you all for the warm welcome!!!(: I'm glad I finally found a forum to discuss for puppetry and find ideas!!

I think your ideas are very good and helpful.I just dont know how to make it look interesting.Maybe with the doll that eats garbage and gets fatter and fatter..I think its a very good idea as Ron G. said.

I'm very nervous as u can realize..!!This is the first time I am going to do this! And I dont know If its gonna be nice!I hope for the best!To tell you the truth it makes it more difficult for me the fact that there isnt going to be dialogue between the characters.

It would be easier for me to think of a script with dialogue.Even in English!I have no problem!But..I have to find something else!

Does anyone know if there's any site with ideas for pantomime??I just want to take a few ideas from there too so as to know how to handle the whole situation!

Hope my English is understandable to you!

How about 2 puppets, one a monster pile of garbage. The other picks up the garbage a piece at a time and throws it in the trash bin until the monster disappears.

Perhaps if you are going to use dolls such as barbie dolls you could have a fashion show with your dolls adorning clothes from recycled materials. You could build a runway out of a cardboard box and have the different dolls move along the runway with a rotating device from underneath the stage. You could be the person telling what each outfit is made of and how this helps save the earth. You could pre-record the words on tape or cd allowing you to operate the fashion show. This would show your flair for designing clothes to.
