conferences Posted by LJ on Jan 14, 2009
I have a questions for those of you who may know more about stuff like this than I.  Since I-Fest was canceled this summer I am looking for another training event to attend.  Unfortunately I cannot attend Vent Haven because I have that whole week completely booked with libraries!  I knew I could only go to one event either I-Fest or Vent Haven and I was planning to graduate from VIT level 2 this summer at I-Fest, hence my decision.  Now I know that One Way Street is working on some shorter events for the summer at different locations but I thought I would check if any of you know of some conferences this summer. Preferably in August or September.  I may decide to go to Kidabra again since that is in August, but I wanted find out my options.  Anyone know anything? THANKS!

It might be a bit of a trek from Iowa to Atlanta, but I would definitely visit the Puppeteers of America National Convention. It's going to be a great festival with lots of workshops from some of the best professional puppeteers. There is a DVD available of the last national festival, "Puppet Rampage" that you can order online for $20 if you want to get a feel for what the festival is like.

There is also the O'Neill Puppetry Conference and PuppetFest MidWest, which both offer intensive, fairly serious puppetry training.

I think that both of my sons will be going to the POA festival in Atlanta this year.  Again that is at a time where I have a number of shows already booked.  We are POA members and my oldest son went a few years ago, but he is really looking forward to it since it will be in Atlanta at the Center!!  Thanks for the ideas!

Na - I will have to send my sons with your information so they can say hello to you from me! You will have a great time! Another friend of ours works at the Center for Puppetry Arts and my sons are looking forward to talking to him again too.
