My first puppet Posted by Siege on Jan 26, 2009
I have finally finished my first puppet. It took almost two weeks from when I started him until he was completed, and that only took so long because I hesitated over each step. I used the glorified sock puppet pattern from Project Puppet which helped a lot. I even have the Foam Book, but I seriously was not comfortable with that as my jumping off point.
But as I hear so many times on this board, just start building! It all becomes so much clearer as you actually work on your puppet. Sure I made some mistakes. Now I am confident that any mistakes I make in the future will help me become a better builder.
This puppet I tentatively named Webster while I was building him, just to give him a name. He ended up being a gift for a friend so she can name him whatever she likes but I haven't gotten word about a name change as of yet.
I made his eyes out of a 1 1/2 inch Styrofoam ball that I cut in half and covered with white felt, his hair is made from 5 inches of a marabou boa glued to the top of his noggin. All in all, it was pretty fun and I can't wait to make more.
Many thanks for the contributors here at Puppets and Stuff for being so supportive to everyone that visits the forums!

Hiya, Siege.
Well done on your first build. Webster looks like a happy little chap. your right, each puppet you build, you learn something new and that makes you want to build another straight away so that you can use that new knowledge.
keep up the good work

cheers
