Mouth puppet! Posted by miguel on Jan 27, 2009
Hi, guys!
I got a question. How can attach the fabric to the head in the way I could put the fabric part of the mouth to the mouth plate(Foam head), the way look nice and clean (All around the lips area)?
Miguel!

I glue the fabric to the mouth plate with contact adhesive and then carefully hand stitch the head faric to the mouth plate. With patience and a bit of practice it turns out nicely.
I know Jay (Dr. Puppet) uses a different method which also works great. Some day I plan to try his method just to see how they compare when it come to execution.

I have done the same thing Jon stitching the head material to the mouth material. You have to make your stitches small though.

So, a mouth fabric glue on mouth plate and then stitch the head fabric(the part of the mouth) with the fabric mouth (putting together)!
I will do it, and see how its work (I got no idea, but I'll try it).
Thanks guys!

Miguel, before you stitch the head to the mouth, make sure you pin the head fabric in place. This will ensure that every stays properly aligned as you work with the head. It can be discouragin to have to take out and restitch a seam because the fabric shifted as you stitched in place. Make the stitches as small as possible, as Jay said, and you'll turn out a clean looking mouth.
Fortunately, mouths aren't too large, so it won't take too long to stitch it all together.

I stitch the mouth to the head fabric on the sewing machine, then glue the mouth in place on the mouth board.
