Completed number two! Posted by Siege on Jan 29, 2009
Okay, so I may be just a little excited!
I completed my second puppet last night. I was looking at the Paul Louis Muller videos at Expert Village and thought "That's pretty darn cool! I bet I could do that!" So I did!
There may be one or two differences in my final puppet, the biggest one being the mouth. I originally used cardboard and felt but didn't like the way that worked when my hand was up in there so I broke out the hair dryer and loosened the glue, then made my own foam and felt mouth plate. It is much more comfortable, not to mention more pliable.
I really wanted to do the ping pong balls for eyes thing so I did that, too. Just a razor, contact cement, and a Sharpie. I like the look because I think it is fun. The cool thing about Paul's pattern is that the seams run down the side of the puppet, which is nice for a novice needler. Since I had so much of that marabou boa left I decided to give him long hair. (I tried to talk him into a matching beard but he would have none of it!)
The foam lined head is just shaped and placed in firmly, no glue so it can be readjusted. And I covered a Styrofoam ball with some fleece and sewed it up for a nose - stuck it on with the contact cement.

Good job - love the purple fleece and the fur, it's a good complement.

Great job!! One of my first people puppets was done following Paul Louis' instructions. In some ways I think yours turned out a little nicer than mine.

I've viewed that video before.....it looks like you are getting used to using the materials in different ways. He does have a nicer mouth than what was shown in the video......thanks for sharing.

He is cute - have you tried talking him into just a tiny beard? That would be SO cute!! Well done! Can't wait to see your puppet family grow!!
