Cookie Monster Type Eyes Posted by Puppet-Planet on Feb 03, 2009

I just wanted to let members here know that Mercury Plastics has Cookie Monster type eyes available for purchase again. I usually only place one or two bulk orders a year and the last time I made an order they didn't have any available. These eyes usually sell pretty fast because they are unique to anything you can get elsewhere so I just wanted to give other builders a heads up about them.

The product number they have available is PS2, and they only come painted (no blanks) but the pupils come off with mineral spirits or most nail polish removers for those of you that like to make your own custom eyes.

If your not familiar with Mercury Plastics, they are a a large manufacturer of plastic eyes and noses located in NY. You do have to purchase in bulk and the minimum quantity is 1,000 pcs, but they may have relaxed on that a bit during these economic times although you would probably still need to purchase them in larger quantities than just 10 or 20.  They don't have a website, but I'm pretty sure you can still get a catalog from them. Here is their information:

Hug Hug Hug!

Thank you Michelle for letting us know about these. Maybe we can put a bigger order in together and then distribute them to those who "pitched in" ..... I'd be willing to put some cash in twords an order, if not let me know if you will be selling them.

Between you and Billy, nobody needs to go anywhere else to get the quality materials for puppet building. Ok, maybe Joann Fabric too. lol

Thank you again for the tops! I got them Saturday. True friends dont forget about other friends. Youre a special one!

Puppet Hugs!

HI Sonny,

I've already placed my order. I didn't think to ask this time around before doing so because no one has ever wanted to go in on a purchase before. I think most people don't need a hundred or so of the same eye.    Your welcome to a couple if you need them.

Now that I live in the boonies I don't have a Joann's nearby anymore. I think the closest one is about two hours or so away. In fact, there arn't ANY fabric or craft stores locally other than quilting. :'(  So I'm having to find all new suppliers to start ordering everything online, and hopefully at least within the same state to save on shipping.

Glad you got the tops!

Would these eyes be like the ones for an elmo or a wembley?
Re: Cookie Monster Type Eyes Posted by Onath on Feb 04, 2009
Also how much was it for a minimum order?

If you have extra I would love to buy some off of you.
Re: Cookie Monster Type Eyes Posted by Puppet-Planet on Feb 04, 2009
Well, my total order was for about 800 eyes so he allowed me to mix and match a little bit.

I'll try to find an old picture of a puppet that I made using these eyes, it's been a while since they were available so I'm not sure if I still have a picture saved. I'll check.

I found an image that I already had loaded in my gallery here on P&S. The eyes that I was able to get are about this size, but the color is blue with black pupils. Agan, the painted portion can be removed with some effort and similar solution as mentioned in previous post. I'll have them posted on my website once they arrive, probably next week some time.

cool give us a heads up when they are on your site.

Also it is tough to tell how big they are? Bigger than a ping pong ball?
Re: Cookie Monster Type Eyes Posted by Puppet-Planet on Feb 04, 2009

Unfortunately it's been so long since I've had any available that I can't remember the size or say for sure if they are larger or similar to the size of a ping pong ball. My guess is that they probably are at least close to the size of a ping pong ball because my trend is to stick with the larger size eyes since I build the larger size puppets and figures. I remember that I really liked these eyes and was pretty disappointed when they were no longer available. I'm excited about getting them again, so lets hope they are as great as I remember.    I only wish I had enough money to buy a lot more than I did for this order.

"Holy Stevie Wonder Batman!" I have a few of those sets in my workshop and they are a one piece item, both eyes connected.

They measure 2 1/2" across, each eye is 1 1/4" (ok I know you can do the math, but I'm type happy right now) and connected with a plastic post lock.

These are very sturdy eyes and will probably outlast most puppets...lol

I will be seeking to add more of those eyes to the Sonny Workshop (or the Disaster Room. Thats what my wife calls it) They are a great item to have.

I'm always looking for different eyes. It's good to have a vast variety of different eyes. Sometimes it takes me a week to really decide on what eyes belong on your puppet. I think Eyes are the most important part on my puppets. Like they say, "Eyes are the window to the Soul". If your puppet comes to life when you set the eyes, then you have chosen wisely young Jedi...

Hope this helps.

Dance like a puppet,
