About to start my first puppet. Posted by shahryar on Feb 07, 2009

Finally got the glorified sock puppet pattern and I will probably be going to joanns today to buy some polar fleece. I just wanted to ask for last minute advice.

Well first I'd just like to ask if anyone has some advice from their experience using this pattern that they think I'd need.

second I do plan after I'm done with the basic sewing and get to the part about features to start trying to turn the little blank slate into something like this.

For the fleec body I will probably make him gray

My question is how do you recommend I handle eyes and horns for him? I have enough friends that know how to use polymer clay that I could probably get them made out of that for more detail.

I figured it wouldn't be to hard to make a kobold since well, their heads are basically the same as the glorified sock puppet head.

oh and if you want a better pick switch out the weaponry for a little st patties day plastic mug I plan to give him (plan to take him to the local renaissance faire after some practice)

thanks for all your help

I would get your friends to help you make horns and eyes for you out of polymer clay.  You could make the horns out of fabric and the eyes in a more traditional way but might as well use the talents of your friends.

Did you ever consider doing this puppet in latex rubber and not fabric?  It would make a great latex puppet.

what kind of latex.

I've seen some fake scale looking stuff at joanns is that kindof what you mean.

Oh and does anyone know where I can get the polyfoam it lists in the ingredients??
edit: oh and polyester fiber fill.
