Finished number three, with some wrinkles. Posted by Siege on Feb 11, 2009
I finished my third puppet, which was a lot like my second only more "free-handed" in construction.

After first completing the glorified sock puppet pattern, then doing the Paul Louis Muller tutorial from Expert Village, I wanted to do one in a quicker, looser fashion. well, he did come out looser. haha. I sewed him up a little too quickly and hand to hand stitch a couple of areas around his head and fingers.

He is a little more symmetrical than the picture suggests, but he does have a few unintended wrinkles on the sides of his head next to his mouth. Maybe a little more foam padding could help that, and the problem is the same in the lower back of his head.

His neck is a bit long and skinny (for my arm, anyway). I have yet to stuff the arms. I almost want to make something for him to wear - not a whole outfit, but a bow tie or an ascot. Something fun.

I used a multicolored marabou for his hair and beard. The eyes are ping pong balls cut in half and wrapped in matching fleece, with drawn on pupils. I like the look a lot but I won't be making eyes like this exclusively. No nose, it just didn't seem to work for him. Nor did ears. He doesn't mind - he is very relaxed about the whole thing. My wife calls him Winston - he's cool with the name, but then he is a very chill character.

Well, that's my third. I just got my Punto pattern in from Project Puppet so I will be working on that this week. I am also working on the PuppetsBrazil pattern, which I think is pretty darn cool.

That's pretty cool: I can imagine it talking very much like a hippy... "Gnarly man! Awesome"

I have found that sometimes small mistakes can be a added feature to a puppet. It was about five years before I let my first set of puppets go. I always would bring them out and compare them to my newest ones. It amazed me everytime how much I had improved over the years. Keep 'em coming I enjoy seing your new builds.

He looks like someone who works in our school... only a different color

Great puppet!
