Puppetry for schools/classes - media packages Posted by Na on Feb 16, 2009
I'd like some help: I'm developing a set of classes that I can advertise on my site to schools and the like, and I want to have a sort of media package that lists all the necessary info of what's involved, how to book, etc. It's my hope that I can also use this media package to send to local agents, as there's a few that specifically book puppetry classes for primary and high schools.
What do people usually put in these things? I have the obvious, which is:
Would it be a good idea to have video or pictures to include as a sample? I'd also probably include feedback/comments from previous participants.
Do people also leave booklets for further student activity in classes? I'd have a bunch of handouts for the class itself, but do people also have other stuff that they give to teachers for later use when you're not there?
Also... is it a good idea to have a booking form online?
Anyway, the idea is this:
1. A class for the basics... a short intro to different types of puppets, with actual examples that people can touch, and then make a finger or glove puppet using felt and decorations. (I did this one recently, and I think I can easily do it for schools, etc)
2. A recycled materials class... Making different types of puppets using anything and everything. So far I've got a toy theatre, recycling toys themselves, a table-top puppet, and I'm working on an idea for water puppets (!) for summer activity
3. Shadow puppets ... probably working with a set of patterns instead of building from scratch
People can book one of the three, or they can contact me to create something specific to their needs. I'd like to offer something on muppets, but that's really not as easy as the others... maybe if I build up some stock I could offer it later.
So suggestions please of what to include in the media packages, or what other people put in theirs
Thanks!

- List of materials and tools
- Type of room/space needed
- Price (perhaps per student, since that's how we price tickets for school shows)
- Number of students per class
- A description of the activities and possible learning outcomes

Not sure yet. I've got the basics of one of the classes already done, it's just a matter of costing it all out and checking out what the prices are from competitors here.

how much would the info pack cost with out the costing because where i am your costing would not matter to me.

I'm thinking about $5 - 6 per student, less materials. That's roughly what is charged here for school performances from touring companies. I'd like to keep it within the same range. But basically, I'll just figure out what materials and tools will cost, and add on a per hour fee for labour, and factor in things like petrol and other overheads
