Scars Posted by gav on Feb 19, 2009
Hey I'm making a puppet that I want to be heavily scarred.  Problem is i've never made a scarred puppet before. For example I want to put one on his chest and one on his cheek.  Anyone have any ideas.

Scarring a puppet would depend on if you are just going to use bare foam.......... if this be the case use tthis link as a example. Just take a razor and make jagged cuts and paint blood to make gory.

Now if you are planning to cover your puppet with fabric just make small jagged cuts and sew up like stitches. If you want the scar to look as if it is healed just take a small piece of cotton cord cover with fabric and hand sew to where the stitching doesn't show. You can add make up or paint for redness or brown for aging scar effect.

What color is your puppet going to be. Is this going to be of human or monster form?

You reminded me billy that I needed to buy some dye.  =D going to your site after I post. Yeah i'm looking for the healed look on skin tone antron fleece. He's going to be a cartoony mexican wrestler.  But I want him to look like he's been through some cage matches. I like what your saying about the healed look. My only question is will the cord show.  I figure it's small and would be barely noticeable.

No you cover the cord with the same fabric as the puppet then you sew that to the area suggested and take care to sew carefully just like you would sew a nose on. You could even sew it crooked. Once sewn take a little makeup or a bit of your rit dye and paint around the scar.
Scars on some light skin colors leaves a darkening around the outside of the scar........ some still look raised ( this is what the cord is for) while darker skin colors have a pale and darkened look.
You will just have to search the internet for human scars and study how they look. Do you have any scars that you can reference to.

PM with what dye you need or email me.

Try to use small pieces of skin colored stocking material by sticking in
patches...this may give a skin peeled look...plus painting a scar on this
will give a realistic effect.

Nylon stockings  that is a good idea  That would give some transparency to it.

This is a side note folks but you have to check out Gavs website....................... He is helping me out with my Dog who is having some problems. I just Love this place we have all kinds of good people here.

Glue!  Regular white glue like Elmers or a glue gun. My scars are smooth and shiney and I think if you used glue on top of your Antron fleece it might work. Of course test a scrap piece first.

shave a little bit the place (line) you want the scar and like Mr. Sorrel said, put glue (Elmer or hot glue) on it, and stain it just a little bit around for special effect!

Miguel!
