Just joined and making my first puppet now. Posted by imy on Feb 21, 2009
Hi all,
I've just joined and I started making my first puppet today.
I think it'll be a sasquash (the small feet variety) or some kind of snow monster... mostly because when I started googling and discovered some puppets, I only had stufff to make a yeti... I think... anyway, I'll let you know in a few hours how he is working out.
I have a few things here in my studio because I make fantay creatures from polymer clay as a hobby... mostly 6"-8"... not like this big guy (he's about... ummm... about a foot and a half in height)
Anyway, I'd better get back into it. I'm painting the eyes and I think my enamel is dry!
Cheers!

No worries! I'll have pics.
I have the white furry body made (no hands and feet yet and the armature for the mouth thingy (technical term) I'm just about to cover the face.
I think I'll use polymer clay since thats what I know how to use! It'll be interesting to see if I can pull it off (literally and figuratively!) The sketches I've made up are a little complex for my first puppet and I'm pretty sure the clay will be too weak... oh well, its my first.

Finished! He's a little different to what I expected. Took ages longer than he shoud have because I couldn't get the darned clay to mix... as it is, its old clay and I had to add waaay too much mixing agent... he'll probably crumble! Soeey about the terrible pics... its 10:30 here and not much light and the flash washed everything out. I'll try harder tomorrow if anyone wants to see.sasquash puppet 009sasquash puppet 012

Welcome! Nice to see another Aussie here; I think there's only about three of us!

Your puppet looks great, I can't believe that's clay

He is adorable!   I am curious like Bhanu what type of puppet he is. Is his mouth articulated or is he perhaps a marionette or rod puppet that does not have a moving mouth?
